It wasn't quite as "OMG!" as I was expecting but it was very satisfying! I'd like to be able to sit here and say I guessed everything but I didn't. The dead policeman being Gene Hunt was one of my many theories though so I may have shouted "I knew it!" to the screen when it was revealed.
The scene when Alex found the policeman's grave and saw the ID card was brilliantly played - Philip Glenister's reactions to everything were amazing. I especially loved the scene of him telling what exactly happened to him. And how the Gene we knew was how real, young, Gene really wanted to be. How he was in his head. One of my theories was that the Gene we were seeing was how Gene really wanted to be so I felt quite good about that moment.
The scenes when Shaz, Chris and Ray found out the truth were really well done. My heart broke for them when they were watching those video tapes. I did think for a horrible moment that they were gonna go with Keats though - those scenes when he was taking them to the lift were very creepy. I was glad they realised that something very wrong was happening and didn't go through with it.
The final moments when they arrived at The Railway Arms were so bittersweet - I loved it when Nelson came out of those doors and then Shaz, Chris and Ray went through those doors to the other side. To Heaven.
It was also very sad when Alex realised that she was also dead. She thought that she could go home now but then she realised that she couldn't anymore. And the reason she'd barely mentioned Molly this series was because she's dead and she's starting to forget her life.
It was sad to see Gene left standing all alone but it made me smile when another future policeman came through the squad room doors. Left open for another spin off or showing that this is where Gene is gonna be for eternity?
Shame we didn't get an appearance from Sam Tyler in the end but I knew Gene hadn't killed him. He'd just helped him accept what had happened to him and showed him how to get to the other side.
I can't believe they trashed the Quattro :(
