Josh Doyle was awesome last night - and hasn't aged a day since the last time I saw him (nine years ago!). The venue was quite possibly the smallest venue I've ever been too. It was proper tiny but it was jammed full of fans which was nice to see. Especially given it's been eight years since he last played here with his band. Most of the crowd knew the words to all the Dum Dums songs he performed too.
He opened with "Setting Sail" - which is the secret track at the end of the Dum Dums' first and only album "It Goes Without Saying" - and finished with "The End of Fear" from the EP of the same name and played a nice mixture of Dum Dums stuff and solo material from the aforementioned "The End of Fear EP" and his new "Values and Virtues EP" including "Closer To You", "You Do Something To Me" and "You Knock Me Off My Feet" from the Dum Dums back catalogue and "Aphrodite" and "Solarstorm" from "The End of Fear EP".
He also did stuff from the new EP which I bought at the gig last night - including "High School Soldier" and "Conrete Moon" - and a couple of songs from the big album he's planning (and has been talking about for years. Let's hope these gigs and the new EP are steps closer to that and we see it soon).
All songs were performed and well and energetically as I remember from the Dum Dums tour back in 2000 - even though he kept saying he hadn't toured for ages and wasn't as young or fit as he used to be I didn't notice.
Awesome show and it was really nice to see him performing over here again - it had been too long - and he seemed very grateful to the audience for turning out and seemed geniunly surprised to see the small venue packed out with people who wanted to see him.
Incidentally, if you don't know who he is (or who the dumdums were) check out

There were two support bands who played for about half an hour each before Josh took the stage for almost an hour and a half - not bad for a £6 ticket. The first act were The Raucous Jays (
myspace) who were really good and currently unsigned. Annoyingly I can't remember the name of the second band right now. They were pretty good too.
In other news: obviously I wasn't content sorting out the store cupboard at work because this morning I sorted out my bedroom and got, I think, three bags full of clothes for the charity shop.
I think my Abby costume for Collectormania is complete now - well, it will be once something from eBay arrives. Sadly enough I'm really looking forward to dressing as her. Lol!
