Meet me in the pouring rain

So, I got "Speak Now" (Taylor's Version) on Friday and have given it a couple of listens already. The original "Speak Now" is probably my favourite Taylor album (although, it's a close run thing and I think they're all really good in their own ways) so I was kinda excited to get Taylor's Version of it. Obviously the songs are still all great but something seems to be missing in them, if you get me. I think the fact that it first came out 13 (!) years ago probably has something to do with it. Vocally and production wise it's probably better but it just doesn't hit the same emotional note as the original did (the same thing happened with the "Fearless" Taylor's version, tbh). I think even her vocal weaknesses from back then just added to the feeling of the songs.

I think the whole rerecording thing is pretty interesting anyway but I don't see them as replacements for the originals, more like companion pieces. I have the originals on CD anyway and will continue to purchase these Taylor's Versions as they come out. The "From the Vault" tracks always add something too - although I'm not that convinced that some of them are actually from the era she says they are, or maybe they were rough ideas that she's fleshed out now. I dunno. Anyway.

Speak of Taylor, I received my code for the tour pre-sale the other day. Gonna have to try and fit the timings around my work schedule but will give it a go. Hopefully I can get something.

In other news: I was watching a video on youtube last night and it showed a clip from the movie "California Man" ("Encino Man", whatever) and when I saw it I thought "I haven't seen that movie in ages, I wonder if it's cheap on Amazon?". Well, I checked on Amazon and apparently I already purchased it, in 2009! So I already have the DVD. Who knew? I used to love it back in the day and I think I spent the Summer of 1994 trying to memorise all of Pauly Shore's dialogue! I wonder if it's aged badly like some of the other movies from that time? I might give it a watch later and see.
