Last night we went to the O2 Forum Kentish Town for the final night of the McFly Anthology Tour!
As this was the third of the London dates in consisted of all of the "Radio: ACTIVE" album and all of the "Above The Noise" album (minus "Foolish"). My preference would probably have been night 2 featuring "Wonderland" which is my favourite McAlbum but I really enjoyed this show! "Radio: ACTIVE" is a close 2nd and all of the songs were performed really well. They were in album order so started with "Lies" which instantly got everyone jumping around! Every song from that album followed with "The Last Song" being the last. Each song was performed with the same amount of energy as we're used to seeing from these boys and they seemed like they really enjoyed being back as McFly again.
Standouts from that album would probably be "One For The Radio" (with the fans shouting "we don't care!" with gusto) and "The Last Song" which was one of my favourites as soon as I heard it.
"Radio: ACTIVE" is a great album - arguably their best - and it's probably their best "live performance" album as every song sounded brilliant!
Now, "Above The Noise" is probably my least favourite McAlbum but I've always thought it still had some great songs on it - once again for this part of the show they started at the beginning of the album with "End of the World" and played every song in order (apart from the aforementioned "Foolish"). I think this album actually works better when performed live (maybe because it doesn't have the polish that's on the album?) and every song was really good. I think I enjoyed most songs more live than I do in their album form.
Stand outs from this section have probably got to be "Shine a Light" (obviously), "Nowhere To Run", "I Need A Woman" and "This Song". I think Danny's voice especially excelled in those songs and he was in great form last night. As were the rest of the band, of course, but Danny was the stand out for me as he seems to be getting better at the front man thing with every show.
Once we almost reached the end of the "Above the Noise" album Dougie asked the audience if they wanted them to play the song "Foolish" to which the crowd cheered. He then said "or shall we just play Five Colours?" and the audience went mad! Dougie then said they were gonna put it to a vote and, obviously, Five Colours won. So they performed the hell out of the song and it probably got the best reception of the night (although the crowd were brilliant as always and enjoyed every song with as much enthusiasm as we're used to from a McFly gig) with everyone in the building shouting "Do!" when directed. Awesome.
The final song of the night was "The Heart Never Lies" which has become an almost theme for the band - especially with the lyrics changed to "another year over, we're still together. It's not always easy, but McFly's here forever!"
After over two hours it was all over. My ears were ringing and I was a sweaty mess (the venue needs some air con badly - I had to sit down on the floor for a couple of songs just to cool down) but it was worth it. I'm so happy we managed to get tickets to this tour (even if we did have to pay through the nose for them) as I would have been gutted if we'd missed it. I'm hoping for many more in the future and the elusive album number 6!
