Today Dave and I headed to the Radio X studios on the off chance that we might see Ricky Wilson coming out after his show. Honestly, I felt quite bad about it and kinda stalkery. I almost just didn't go actually (I'd been thinking about it for a while but it hadn't happened for one reason or other) but my need to see Ricky outweighed that (especially after I'd seen pictures on twitter of him with other fans outside the studio on other days). So, anyway, I got there at about 12.30pm (the show finishes at 1pm and I listened to it on the way) and Dave joined me at about 12.45pm. I felt a bit awkward standing out there as there were no other fans about (that surprised me actually) and I don't really like being the only one - although I don't like it if there's a big crowd either.
Anyway, Dave and I were chatting when Ricky came out just after 1pm. Dave said "Ricky!" and I held out my Kaiser Chiefs CD and awkwardly said "Hi, can you sign this?", he said something like "of course I can" and I said "I have a pen". I got the pen out of my pocket and took the CD sleeve out and handed them both to Ricky - actually I was gonna take the lid off the pen but Ricky took it before I had chance to. I think I said something about enjoying the show but before Ricky could really respond Dave started talking about "Bring the Noise" and how cool the flip reverse it segment of the show is, Ricky said that lots of people have said the same. I think I said something about it being the best part. Sometime during that Ricky finished signing my CD and handed it back to me I think I then asked if I could have a quick picture, Ricky said okay and put his arm around me for the photo, I reciprocated. Unfortunately Dave wasn't quite ready with the phone so Ricky looked at me and said "we're gonna be like this for ages now" (or something similar) and said "yeah probably". Dave then took the picture. While having my arm around him I noticed how little he is. He's a skinny little thing. Awww. After the picture was taken I said "thank you" and then he asked Dave if he wanted a picture too so Dave got one as well! After I took that one Ricky said something like "sorry, I've got to rush off". I think we said something like "that's fine. Thank you" and then Ricky was gone.
He looked so tired, bless him, (he mentioned on the show that he'd been to a wedding last night and wasn't quite morning ready) and he obviously had to be somewhere so it was really nice of him to stop for us and be as nice as he was. I'd like to see him another time when he's not so tired and I don't feel like I'm imposing! Maybe I'm getting too old for this stuff as I used to wait outside Radio One all the time for other people and not feel weird.
Anyway, I got a nice picture with lovely Ricky (I hope he went home and got some sleep!) and my CD looks cool with his autograph on it.
