Biscuits!

I went to the cinema this afternoon where I saw "Absolutely Anything" - as I've mentioned before I had to make the effort for the new Simon Pegg movie. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous one I saw (which was "Man Up") but I thought it was pretty good and quite fun.

I thought the premise was quite fun, Simon Pegg himself is always good value and he can play this kind of character in his sleep really and he's obviously good at the more comedic moments. Where I think it was lacking was in the sort of love subplot between his character Neil and Kate Beckinsale as I didn't think they had the chemistry to carry that aspect of the movie. Thankfully it wasn't really in it that much so it didn't ruin things.

I do think Pegg had really good chemistry with his dog Dennis though (played by a dog called Mojo and voiced by the late Robin Williams in what ended up being his last role (shame it wasn't something more substantial)) and the best scenes for me were the ones between him and Dennis and thankfully there were quite a lot of them. I think Dennis was Neil's best friend in a way I thought that was quite sweet - especially the moments when Dennis was saying he didn't want to do anything to upset him and kept asking Neil if he loved him.

I liked how whatever Neil wished for (or whatever) ended up being all wrong in whatever way - even the altruistic ones like ending world hunger and homelessness backfired and other things were just taken too literally. I also thought the locations looked nice and it nice seeing some parts of London you wouldn't always see on screen.

To sum up, I quite enjoyed this but it wasn't perfect. The short running time was really nice (86 minutes) especially during a time when moves of over 2 and half hours seem to becoming the norm and Pegg is always worth watching. I'd probably give this a generous 7 out of ten.

Trailers:

Ricki and the Flash - I hadn't seen the trailer for this although I had heard of it but didn't really know what it was about. It looks quite good though - I could be tempted to see it.

We Are Your Friends - I hadn't heard of this before today. I think it looks okay and Zac Efron is quite watchable.

The Bad Education Movie - I've never seen the TV show (although I've heard positive things) but was surprised that this movie happened. It looks quite fun and I'm sure if you're a fan of the show you'll love it.

Vacation - I guess is a sequel/reboot of sorts of the National Lampoon movies with Ed Helms as the younger Griswold trying to revist Wally World with his own family. I thought this trailer was quite fun. I probably wouldn't see it at the cinema but might watch it on TV.

They also showed a little behind the scenes montage thing about "The Man from UNCLE" - movie looks quite good.
