I headed to the cinema after work today (and used my Nectar points!) where I saw "Terminator Genisys". I know the reviews haven't been that favourable but I wanted to see it anyway.
I ended up quite enjoying it - it was very timey wimey but then the "Terminator" movies always are. I liked the way the events (and people) from the first movie intertwined with the events from this one - especially how things had changed, how Sarah Connor wasn't at all what Kyle Reese was expecting. I also liked how she knew what the future held for her because she'd been told.
I thought the cast were pretty good - the new Sarah Connor was pretty cool (and I liked the relationship she had developed with Schwarzeneggar's Terminator) and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese was my favourite thing about this movie! I liked his version of Kyle Reese. He was a bit different to the Kyle Reese we knew but I liked that (and he's very nice to look at! I enjoyed his performance in the last "Die Hard" too) and I thought his chemistry with Emilia Clarke's Sarah was quite good. The plot was quite good - like I said, very timey wimey but not too confusing once you got things straight in your head. Although I'm not sure about the direction they took with John Connor but I guess it was something different and the actor played it quite well.
The action sequences were cool and quite well filmed.
I've seen all of the "Terminator" movies now and while I quite enjoyed this one it was definitely not as good as the first or the second ones (which I'd put on an equal standing - for different reasons) and I don't really remember the third or fourth that well (I enjoyed Nick Stahl in the third and remember quite liking the fourth) - I feel a marathon coming on.
To sum up, I think if you like the "Terminator" franchise or timey wimey stuff then you'd probably enjoy this one in one way or another. I do think that Arnold Schwarzeneggar was actually in it a bit too much. I know it's weird to say that as this is a "Terminator" movie but I think I would have preferred less of him and more of Jai Courtney. I think I'd probably give it about 7.25 out of ten.
Trailers:
The Man from U.N.C.L.E - I hadn't seen the trailer for this before, and I don't actually know much about the TV series. I thought this trailer was pretty cool though - and Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill look like they have really good chemistry.
Self/Less - I'd never actually heard of this before but thought this was a pretty decent trailer and the movie itself looks quite interesting.
Fantastic Four- I think I commented on this last time I went to the cinema and saw this trailer. I quite liked the previous movies and wasn't sure why they decided to reboot them, this was quite a good trailer though.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - I thought this was a pretty good trailer but I haven't seen the previous two or three (?) "Mission Impossible" movies. Simon Pegg looks good in it though.
Ant-Man - I'm not a big fan of all these Marvel movies but this does look quite good, and I do like Paul Rudd.
In other news: I watched "Die Hard 4.0" (my Fourth of July movie of choice) on Saturday night (I always enjoy it) and while watching that I realised I hadn't seen the 5th Die Hard in ages so last night I watched that again. I enjoyed seeing it again (Jai Courtney!) and it was slightly better than I remembered. I feel another marathon coming on.
Since my last post I've also watched:
"Suits" - 5x02 - I thought this episode was quite good but there wasn't enough Mike and Harvey scenes for my liking. I liked Harvey's new secretary - I think she'll be good for Harvey. And I thought the Mike storyline was quite good. I don't like what they're doing to Louis' character again. I just want him to be a nice guy.
"Graceland" - 3x02 - for some reason this season so far just isn't holding my attention like this show was in previous seasons. I thought this episode was okay but I was very distracted for some reason. I hope things pick up because I really don't want to let this show go.
"Humans" - 1x04 - I thought this episode was quite good. Some very interesting stuff happening now. So Leo's father was involved in the Synth program then? And he's like half synth or something? Which buys into the theory I had that some of the Synths actually started out as human (or whatever). I wonder where things are gonna go from here? I'm enjoying Colin Morgan's performance but why couldn't they have let him keep his real accent?
"My Mad Fat Diary" - 3x03 (series finale) - so this was the last one ever, huh? I thought it was quite a good episode but it feels like this series barely started and now it's over. I'm gonna miss this show though and hope Rae manages to do well in her future (even though we'll never get to see it).
"Scream" - 1x01 - as we're not gonna get any more "Scream" movies it looks like this is gonna be the next best thing so I thought I'd check out this opening episode. I didn't think it was perfect, it was a bit naff in places and all the "post modern" references were way too obvious - and definitely not subtle (for example: their discussion about how slasher stories don't work on TV was just too in your face) - but for some reason there's enough here to keep me interested. I'll give it a few more episodes, I think.
