Tuesday nights are always busy for me TV wise and it didn't help last night that there were two episodes of "The Following" for no reason.
First up was the season finale of "Castle" - 7x23 - I thought this episode was really good as an episode but as a finale it was much like the rest of the season, a bit disappointing. This episode should have been earlier in the season in place of one of the boring fillers we got. Finale's should be epic, anything can happen, episodes and this just wasn't. I liked the case of the week and the connection to Castle's past and I thought Nathan Fillion did a good job with the more serious stuff.
This show has been renewed and is coming back for a season 8 - part of me was almost hoping for cancellation just so I wouldn't have to decide whether to come back for it or not. I think with a new show runner (again) maybe I'll give it a shot for a couple of episodes and see how it goes?
Then I watched "NCIS: Los Angeles" - 6x23 - it pains me to say this but I thought this episode was really boring and because my mind kept wandering a lot I didn't really know what was going on most of the time. This episode ended with a "be continued.." which doesn't exactly make me hopeful for next weeks season finale. I thought the Deeks scenes were quite good though but the whole Arkady storyline just isn't that interesting, to be honest.
Then it was time for "Stalker" - 1x19 - I think it's really weird that they're giving us these two extra episodes because the last one would have been the perfect finale. This episode was okay - it was almost back to same old same old which seemed really jarring after the built up towards last weeks episode. I thought the case of the week was okay but I was surprised and slightly annoyed that it took them as long as it did for Janice to have her mind blowing revelation about the case they were investigating being connected to the murder at the beginning. I figured out really early on what connected the victims. When Janie dramatically announced it I was like "There we go! Finally!".
While I'm not completely against the possibility of a relationship between Beth and Jack I really didn't think the scenes between them worked in this episode. Weirdly enough the chemistry just wasn't there (considering Dylan McDermott and Maggie Q are apparently together in real life) which was quite disappointing as I think their friendship chemistry in previous episodes was quite good.
The Following 3x12 & 3x13
I'm only cutting this for spoilers because something pretty major happened.
First of all I thought the first of these two episodes was quite boring and didn't really hold my attention that much until Max's boyfriend got Mike involved in all the crazy stuff. It really didn't need to end up that way for him, if he'd taken Mike up on his suggestion then he probably wouldn't have died. How did he think it was gonna end?
Ryan has obviously lost it and I hope he can get it back again now he knows about Gwen's pregnancy - and maybe cut Joe out of his life for good?
I was glad Mike managed to get rescued by them Ryan and Max (resulting in the death of Theo's sister - that can't be good. He's got nothing left to lose now) but as the 2nd episode reached it's conclusion I think we all knew something bad was gonna happen to Mike and/or Max during that final scene. I think I'm in a bit of denial about the whole thing and am sure that Mike will be okay somehow (he's like Dewey from the "Scream" movies, you always think he can't survive what's happened to him but then he always does). He can't have made it this far only to be killed off so close to the end of the show, can he? That just wouldn't be right. Although if he does die then that could really send Ryan over the edge and he'll probably never come back from that.
After what has been a fairly weak and kinda messy season I'm suddenly quite interested in what could happen in the final two episodes (that air next week). Is Mike really dead? And if so what could that mean for Max and Ryan? And what's Theo gonna do next?
Finally I watched "Elementary" - 3x21 - I thought this episode was quite good. The case of the week was quite good and I liked the subplot of Sherlock and his friend. I thought the final scene between them was really sweet. Sherlock can be quite sweet sometimes.
In other news: it's the City of Heroes convention this weekend - I'm looking forward to it but I'm not prepared at all. I mean, I'm prepared in that everything's booked (train, hotel etc) but I'm not mentally ready, if you know what I mean. I got some cash out today (because the event only accepts cast payments) and I bought a few foody things. Even though I've been to these things before I'm still never sure quite how much food I'll need. It's only for a couple of days so I'm not gonna starve! Like I said, I'm looking forward to it! I'm interested in seeing what kinda crowd it will attract because "Supernatural" and "Teen Wolf" ones tend to have the same kinda fanbase, I'm not sure if these shows do.
