Last night Dave and I went to the O2 Arena for the London night of the Kaiser Chiefs UK tour! After looking online we saw that they were due on stage at 9pm so we decided to aim to get there for about 8ish - as we had no real interest in seeing the two support acts. After looking at the merch booth (I totally bought a T-shirt) we got to our seats at about 8.20pm - we were quite far away but the view was still good.
The Kaiser Chiefs came on stage at about 9pm and played solidly until 10.40pm which I thought was pretty good value for money. They opened with "Factory Gates" from their latest album "Education, Education, Education and War" and played a really nice mixture of songs from past and present before finishing with "Oh My God". Every song was performed with a crazy amount of energy, especially from front man Ricky Wilson who must have been absolutely shattered by the end of the night. He worked hard to get the crowd going when he needed to and rocked out when he needed to as well.
The songs performed included "Every Day I Love You Less and Less", "Everything is Average Nowadays", "The Angry Mob" (one of my favourites so I was glad they played it), "Never Miss A Beat", "Modern Way" and, of course, "Ruby" and "I Predict A Riot". I think those final two were the ones that got everyone in the room on their feet and after them I didn't sit down again - even though some of the people in my section didn't stand up (and the couple next to me left after the support act so didn't see the Kaisers at all) I decided that I wanted to stand up and if the people behind me didn't like it then too bad. They'd have to get up too. More recent songs performed included "Coming Home" (great singalong to this one), "Cannons" (super pleased they did this one as it's my favourite from the recent album), "Ruffians on Parade", "Misery Company" and "Roses".They also did a pretty cool cover of The Who's "Pinball Wizard" and the new single, "Falling Awake".
This band put on a really energetic show and while it was good seeing them in an Arena setting I would love to see them at a slightly smaller venue such as Eventim Hammersmith or Shepherd's Bush Empire. On occasions they really had to work to get certain parts of the crowd going - Ricky was good at working the crowd though and by the end of the night everyone had a great time. At the end of the evening my ears were ringing and I had "Oh My God" stuck in my head. It was a really good show and I'd love to see them again and would definitely book up for the next tour.
Oh, and I kinda love Ricky Wilson. Just saying.
