Got up at 6am to get to the hospital to see my dad before he went in for his catherization which was scheduled at 7:30. So I arrived around 6:45. Everything smooth, he didn't seem to be in much distress and even joked a bit. They took him into OR around 7:20. My sister and went down to the cardiac unit to wait for the completion of his procedure. At approximately 10am my aunt (my father's sister and best friend) came walking in. Thinking she was there for daddy I told her that last report was he was doing fine. She said she was glad but she had been there since 1am that morning with my uncle (her husband my dad's male best friend) he had had a stroke that nite and had to be sent by ambulance to the hospital. The docs were still working on him and she didn't know much but she wanted to check on daddy. She left and they came out and said everything went OK so far and that he was in recovery. He got 3 stents and one was pretty major. So after a time we ask if we can go see him. They say "sure" so we go back to his room and he is somewhat awake. He says his chest is killing him and he has a headache. I start rubbing his head and he said it felt better. I stopped and about 3 mins later he asked my sister to rub his head, which she did. After rubbing daddy's head, he said it felt a bit better, she came to sit by me. Not 30 seconds later I heard what I thought was a snore out of my dad and I even nudged her. Then he did this god awful sucking/choking noise. I looked at him and his eyes were open but rolled back in his head. Ihey ran out into the hall screaming "WE NEED HELP SOMETHING IS WRONG". I said that over and over and after what seemed like an enternity they came into his room. I heard one nurse scream "Call a Code".and I knew exactly what that meant. So I was about to pass out so my sister and I went to the waiting room. I could hear them doing things to him. I got numb (shock). The hospital volunteer came to my sister and I and said "come with me to the family room"..(I knew this was the worst thing)..So we went into the family room and began the long wait. They brought in a priest to sit with us.I couldn't even talk to him. I didn't cry, I didn't talk I just sat there looking at the floor. After an eternity the nurse came and said "you can see him"...and I didn't know if she meant dead or alive..but she meant alive...she said he is semi conscience....so we went in there and he looked bad but he was with us...they took hiim back to the cath lab to check somethings then moved him to Critical Care Unit...He is doing a bit better which is why I came home for sleep. During the day I went down and visited my uncle (who had the stroke). He has lost some usage of his right arm and leg but hopefully that will come back. They are running tests on him to see what method of treatment they need to do. Oh one more thing, they said my dad will be really sore because they had to do chest compressions and the shock thing with the paddles.......oh what a day!!!!!
