He hates the rain. He hates the way it drowns the world and hides the sun. But he hates the sun more. It turns the world to gold and chases away the shadows. It laughs at him, mocking him with its cheery radiance while his heart slowly freezes to death.

She was sleeping. The rise and fall of her chest was comforting, in a dull, rhythmic way. Dull, but safe. Everything was suddenly made predictable, made right when she was there. Everything bad just melted away. Everything new was forgotten, and the past became a cozy haven of memories and whimsical reminiscing. The world slowed and stopped, pausing for a moment, almost hesitating, as though she had power over time. Power over time like she had over his heart. She would waltz into his life, make everything right, and then she would vanish again, stealing it all away with her.
