Obligatory Remix Rant

Aug 04, 2013 19:04

Okay, rant is a strong word. I'm not quite to the 'rant' stage of panic yet, but I feel like it's as imminent as the Remix deadline. Which is imminent indeed. End of August, I think. And if I'm wrong, please don't correct me because I need to live in this fantasy world of infinite time and inspiration let me know.

My problems? Well, let's start with my first mistake: my couple. Hannibal Lecter and Clarice Starling. I've long been of the opinion that Hannibal Lecter is the ultimate villain/romantic anti-hero ever written, and I do not think he can be duplicated. Every Hannibal-esque character is an homage to the monster Anthony Hopkins brought to life in the movies. Now, I adore Mads in NBC's 'Hannibal' (amazing, amazing show!), but he's different, too. Both these portrayals have set the bar extremely high, and I'm having trouble getting my characters onto that same level. Granted, I'm not a genius, so this kind of development shouldn't be easy for me. It would just be so much nicer if it were.

Second problem: Chapter One. I hate, hate, hate it, so I've decided to rewrite it. This is a good decision, but it's also a lot of work. On the plus side, Chapter Two is baller, and I'm mostly happy with Chapter Three, though it needs some major fleshing out (har de har har).

Third problem: Finding a beta. My go-to has more or less retired from the fandom to move on to more interesting/real-lifey things, which is awesome for her, but now I need to find someone who will tell me what's what and how to improve. This probably isn't going to be as difficult as I think it will be, but I worry about someone who's not going to challenge what I've already written. If something's crap, I need to know. If something needs to be more, I need to know!

Fourth problem: Procrastinating. Like I'm doing right now. So I'm going to wrap this up, eat my ice cream, take out the garbage, and then take this bitch for a spin.
