Sleep wouldn’t come. His mind raced thinking about his family and the dangers to come.
He opened his eyes, to sneak a look at the figure lying down slightly above him. He was surprised to see her looking at him. But instead of looking away embarrassed, she smiled shyly. He returned the smile.
She moved so she was on the edge of her pillows as she reached for his hand. He gladly gave it to her. The touch of her skin reminded him, and her, that hours ago they’d been dancing.
Suddenly they felt calmer. There sleep found them both.
