Can I just vent a totally irrational, probably not a big deal pet peeve of mine? It's not particularly aimed at anyone who will actually read this, but it's something that consistently irritates me every time it happens.
If someone IMs you, and you're not purposefully ignoring them for some reason they should know about, answer. I find it incredibly rude when I send someone a message and they never answer. I don't mean being afk and taking like an hour to answer - that happens. I mean never answering.
There really isn't an excuse I can think of. If you're busy, put on an away message or go invisible, or better yet, tell me. If you don't want to talk, put on an away message or go invisible or tell me. If you're someone I haven't talked to in a long time and you don't remember me (note that I am probably IMing you because we haven't talked in a long time!) then just say you don't remember me. And if you think I'm irritating you, you don't like me, etc., then by all means just block me or tell me so.
But for fuck's sake, SAY SOMETHING BACK. Imagine if you did that to someone at school. Or in the supermarket. Or on the street. Someone comes up to you and tries to say something, someone you know. How much of a douche bag move would it be to walk around them and ignore whatever greeting they gave you? That's basically the message someone sends me when they don't answer and I know they aren't afk. Then in half an hour they'll go offline and I know I was completely ignored.
