♖ - Two
So I've been here for a while now and I think I understand this place as well as I can by now--the Network and the curses and everything, I mean. I'm still working on the rest of it.
But I also think I ought to look for something more to do than just stand around waiting for another curse. It's all right when you've got a curse on top of you and everything's gone wrong, but it gets absolutely boring doing nothing all day but wait for the next curse: nothing happens. After all, there's no school here--not like school in England at least. And no state affairs or anything, obviously. I don't mind not having school since that might as well have been nothing sometimes, but I can't just hang about all day. Anyway, Peter has a job. And it seems like the sort of thing a fellow ought to do--for the sake of the household and everything. I know there's no real way to know how long any of us might be here, but I can't sit around all day.
I'll admit that I've never had an ordinary job before, but I'm sure there's got to be someone in a City like this wanting for help anyway. We're all strangers around here at first, after all. And if you're wanting for help, then that's exactly why I've put this out on the Network. I'd be glad to be that help.
