I cannot believe Ilán is already over a month old! I feel like I really missed out on the first two weeks because my recovery was so rough :( But anyway, here are some photos from the ( last two weeks )
It's weird, cuz that cat is the one who is afraid of everything and hates everyone and hides when people come over. We thought for sure she'd hate Ilán. But she likes him, doesn't get scared when he cries, etc. The other two cats don't like him, and one even got so stressed that she started having diarrhea (outside the litter box :P) and we had to take her to the vet!
Yeah, we did call him Dexter. We thought he looked like a little punk kitty, so we bought him a red tartan collar and tried to think of a punk name. Dexter was our favourite, but then we both remembered the TV show about the serial killer Dexter, which kind of put us off a bit. We didn't want people to think we were fans of that program, so we just shortened it to Dex, "As in Dexter Holland, or dex-amphetamine". I call him Dexter when no one else is around though.
I don't have a digital camera right now (we do own one, we got it recently, but left it at my parents house, lol) But when I get it back, I'll take some photos of both Dex and Shiny and email them to you. They're both so cute! Dex is especially funny because he's so clumsy. He tries to jump out the window but half the time he falls off the sill. And he kind of walks bow-legged, which always makes me laugh.
I've been pretty good, I'm finished w/ school finally! That was a week or so ago, and since then Andrew & I have just been living in Seattle at his Mom's. Before I was done w/ school we were just working on fixing it all up b/c they have a whole floor that's been unused so now we have our bedroom and livingroom mostly set up so it's been good. We still have some furniture and stuff in BHam, but it's been hard to get up there w/ all the snow. I'm happy to be done w/ school but now I'm just looking for jobs which is never fun lol. But I'm happy to be in Seattle again!!
Congrats on finishing school!!! That is so awesome, and it must be a huge relief! Sucks about having to look for a job though, I have a couple friends in the same boat and they're not having an easy time! What kinda jobs are you looking for?
That's cool that you guys are able to stay at Andrew's mom's - do you have to pay rent or anything? Man, I really miss not having to pay rent when we lived with my mom!
Ya living here is going to be a lot cheaper, its Andrew's mom, older sis, and little bro but its like a 5 bedroom house so there is enough space. Its kind of weird because this was their Grandma's house and they moved here like 6 years ago to take care of her but she died a few years ago and the house is in their aunt's name and they do pay her something for rent, but our share is going to be less than 200 a month so it will be a lot cheaper than our own place. As for jobs, Ive mostly been looking for entry level or secretary type jobs... No luck really so far though. Ive had a couple calls from banks as a teller but after a couple interviews I dont think thats where I want to go. There is a lot more sales and trying to get ppl to sign up for stuff like credit cards then I would have thought... Not really my style haha. Luckily my parents said they will help me out and pay some bills and stuff while Im jobless, but its just draining applying and interviewing even. Im just trying to enjoy this time off before I begin working till I
( ... )
Less than $200 a month is really good! We pay $500/month for living in my grandma's old house, but we don't pay for any utilities or anything. We would be totally screwed if we had to, because we can barely make rent every month, let alone utilities, as well as paying for stuff for Ilan and whatnot! It's great that your parents are going to help you out til you find a job.
Speaking of jobs, if I hear of anything that sounds like it might be good for you, I'll let you know! I have a friend who just went through the job-finding process and it was kinda hellish but she ended up getting a really good job, it just took longer than she'd hoped. So keep your head up! Is Andrew working?
I know you guys are getting family deals and such, but your rents sound really cheap. What is the average monthly rent, and what do people actually earn on average? (I mean poor people like us, not rich people - they don't count).
Brad and I are living in a house that belongs to his parents so we pay very cheap rent - but its still $200 a week. Next year we'll be moving into Brad's house which will cost a lot more, but we'll actually be paying the mortgage, not just rent. That'll be around $2000 a month. My brother Adam and his wife Bow will be moving into the flat downstairs so they'll be able to help out with that, which is good, cos otherwise we'd be struggling to cover it.
$500/month IS cheap, especially for the house we live in. It's huge! But it's just sad that we can't get more of a break since it's in the family and my grandma definitely doesn't need the money (she's very wealthy and never does anything with her money) and we could definitely use that break, especially with a newborn and with me not being able to get any work done because I'm taking care of Ilan 24/7.
I don't know what average monthly rent is, but I'd say anywhere from $600-$1000 for apartments depending on the area, and more for house rentals. And I'd say the average earning would be $10/hour for people my age who aren't using their degree or whatever. I made $9.00 at CompUSA and $8.75 (went up to $9 at some point) at the daycare and we only got raises once a year and they were stupidly low.

On that note, how have you been? LOL!

And Ilan is gorgeous. And so are you. You look so happy! Tired, but happy!
