With the plain white t-shirt and trousers, you might think this is an ordinary Kaito, if a little monochrome. There's a newsboy cap tugged low over his right eye, and a stripy scarf wrapped securely around his neck (which he keeps tugging at, for some reason). Nice and normal... right?
....right?
[ooc: Come and prod the shock-collared assassin~!]
*au,
kuroba kaito

[And one completely normal Aoko is now darting past the COMPLETELY NORMAL Kaito, chasing after yet another Kaito with all of the vigor of a girl who just had her skirt flipped.
... well.
It would be a completely normal Aoko, if said Aoko didn't just reach out into thin air and pull a mop out of nothing with a puff of smoke and a loud crack]

Oi, it's not my fault you wear boring panties!

Your attention may be grabbed by 1412 collapsing, scrabbling desperately for the knife he's just dropped, before curling in a pain-filled ball on the floor.

"K-- Kaito?" The one from her world goes momentarily forgotten as she slides to her knees next to 1412, instinctively (be he the one she has known since childhood or not) reaching out for his shoulder. "What happened--"
And then her gaze is draw toward the dropped knife, and she freezes.

Her own Kaito is barely a half-step behind her, crouching down next to Aoko while trying to spot what's wrong with the collapsed figure in white. At the sight of the knife, his expression goes blank, and he shifts just a little so that he can get in front of Aoko at a moment's notice.
"O-oi, you okay? Do you need us to get you to the infirmary?"

"Not Kaito, little miss," he hisses, gaze flicking sideways to the boy next to her, that boy, that dreadful, awful boy-- 1412 shivers, cutting the line of thought off. Mustn't think about killing, no. Bad things could happen. Have happened.
"Not. Kaito. At. All."

Quickly, but carefully enough not to startle this strange person, she reaches out to grab the knife and pull it out of 1412's reach. She's tense and ready to move at a moment's notice, and is very much aware of the fact that her Kaito is as well.
"If not Kaito, then... who are you?"
Reply
"Are you hurt?"

"One-four-one-two might be hurt but he wouldn't tell the Kaito." He smiles, falsely pleasant.
"And we might tell the little miss but we shan't. We're fine, not hurt at all."

Except... this time, something had gone terribly wrong.
Swallowing her own nerves, she addresses 1412 specifically, gaze flickering back toward Kaito. "He won't listen," she says, "You can tell me-- and I won't tell him, but only if you let me go first."

Kaito's protest is sharp-edged, one hand half-outreached and his hackles raised even more by the grip around Aoko's wrist. 1412 - that was Kaitou Kid's number. But this guy wasn't acting like any Kaitou Kid he'd ever heard of. An imposter? Or someone just... not right in the head?
He's leaning hard towards the latter option right now.
It's clear the guy isn't going to have anything to do with him either way. And Aoko's too... Aoko to just leave him be. But he's not going anywhere without her either, not while that knife is out.
"Look, I know you like looking into anything to do with that thief, but we should just get him to the infirmary or go."
This situation was ringing way too many alarm bells for him to want to stick around.

Aoko's response to her friend's protests is calm but also sharp, a hint of annoyance lacing her words. "I said you weren't going to listen-- cover your ears, okay? This is only going to take a moment."
Her gaze doesn't leave 1412 even for a second. Already she had realized that approaching 1412 had been a mistake in and of itself-- but now that she was in this situation, she needed to handle it.
Preferably in a way where no one was injured.

He shuffles slightly to one side, tense irritation in every move as he covers his ears. But he stays within easy arm's reach of the two of them, and doesn't look away, either.

He lets Aoko go, smiling softly and reaching up to gently pat her cheek, all gentle movement, slow and careful. Clever little miss. Quite smart, telling the Kaito to not listen. Quite... smart.
"1412 isn't hurt at all~!" He laughs like a hyena, cracked and high-pitched, utterly amused at the show they put on for him to say nothing at all.

A few shifts, and she's on her feet, still crouching, still regarding 1412 with concern, but in a much better position to move if necessary-- muscles taut, body at the ready.
"... good. I'm glad 1412 isn't hurt." A beat. She should stand up and leave, really, but this is... this is Kaito, and she just doesn't feel right leaving him here like this.
"Why do they just call you 1412? Why don't they call you Kaito?"

He snarls, angry at her, his mood changing rapidly. Hadn't she gotten the stupid-Kaito to stop listening? Hadn't she been nice? But no, they always make a mistake, are always idiots. Always, always stupid little misses.
"1412. Isn't. Kaito." He clenches a hand into the fabric of the scarf at his neck to remind himself he can't hurt her. He wants to-- oh how he wants-- but he mustn't. No, he mustn't.
