don't fool yourself

A few nights ago my friend Denise called me and asked if I could pick her up from her mom's house in Banning Friday (last) night. I didn't get off work until 11:15 and said I didn't want to drive out there by myself, by way of excuse. So she said if she could get someone to go with me, would I go? I didn't know what to say, so I said okay. Well, the person she found to go with me was Alex.
As it turned out, he decided he wanted to drive even though his tires are messed up. We spend an hour filling his tires, taking money out of the ATM, and stopping by work. We eventually got on the road seriously late. On the hour drive out to Banning we didn't talk a whole lot, but the talking we did was quality. We discussed why he acts like such an idiot most of the time, and I asked him what he was so afraid of. ("Myself...") When we got there, he really wanted to go gambling so we went to Moronga and me and Denise watched him play slots. On the first one he played, he put in 4 dollars and won $111. Unfortunately, he kept playing and in the end only won sixty-something. I bet one of his dollars and won, but didn't realize I had, so kept playing until I lost it all. Then we left, and we were all hungry, so we stopped at Denny's. I had two slices of French Toast which were really quite amazing, especially for Denny's. By this time it was a little before 5, so of course, we made it home a little before 6. Me and Alex stopped by the store to say hi to the opening crew (that's messed up.) and then he took me home.
My Dad heard me come in, I guess, so I told him when he asked me this morning that Eileen stopped by and wanted to talk to me. x x; I'm tired of lying, but I'm more tired of him worrying and getting all over my case for staying out late. I wish I wasn't in that situation at all.

"It's sixteen miles to the promised land
And I promise you I'm doing the best I can
Don't fool yourself in thinking you're more than a man
'Cause you'll probably end up dead
I visit these mountains with frequency and I stand here with my arms up
Some days last longer than others
But this day by the lake went too fast
And if you want me you better speak up
I won't wait
So you'd better move fast
Don't fool yourself in thinking you're more than you are
With your arms outstretched to me"
