"Russia is spelt with three 's's." A long finger tapped the notebook paper, stopping the pen that scurried across it.
Without even thinking about it, the pen flew back, scratched in the extra s he missed and went about the history paper. It took another moment before his scarlet gaze snapped back to the name and he scowled. A quiet rumble came from the back of his throat as he ran an angry line through the corrected mistake.
Beside him, his regular study partner was giggling behind his pale hand, sheltering his face so he wouldn't have revealed his expression.
"You must think yourself a real comedian. How does the world live without your sense of humor?" He snapped sarcastically as he tried to make the correction above his scribble.
Fai couldn't hold back anymore and laughed openly, his head tossed back a bit, his own pencil forgotten. "I never thought that'd actually work."
Annoyed, Kurogane tried to get back to his essay but found he couldn't concentrate. He had become very used to the blond looking over his shoulder and correcting his spelling and grammatical errors. The reason for his annoyance was mainly at the fact that he hadn't questioned it this time around.
Glancing over, Fai couldn't resist reaching and attempting to pinch his cheek. However, his hand was smacked away almost immediately, not getting even close. A fake pout crossed his lips. "Aww, did I break Kuro-rin's concentration?"
Kurogane watched his expression for a long while until the pout faded and was replaced with a questioning look.
The silence loomed on. With a slow movement, tanned fingers moved forward and tucked a few locks of blond hair behind his ear. His finger tips remained there.
A complicated expression crossed his blue eyes. Both orbs flickered back and forth, completely distracted.
Kurogane's blank face soon was replaced with a tiny smirk. "Did I break yours?"
The comment made Fai's mind swing back to its normal state ... if not still a bit fuzzy. He reached up almost hesitantly and brushed their fingers together. Gently, he pulled the other's hand away and placed it on the table. The moment it was there, Fai rose to his feet.
"I'm thirsty. I'll be right back." He spoke with a smile and quickly left the room. Not very subtle but he hadn't been looking for subtle. Hand pressed against his chest, Fai had just wanted an excuse to get out of there. His heart was racing and he didn't know what to say.
In his mind, he imagined the victorious smile likely plastered on Kurogane's face.
Fai sighed loudly.
Well played, old companion. Well played.
