These are just MY thoughts... I think social interaction does tend to be a competition to a point. This is usually in the first few get togethers. People establish a ranking order. Also established (and this never fails for me) is a "who's who" of the group. Sometimes I end up being the dummy of the group, others Im the most intelligent, social, funloving college girl.
I have also found that within my circle's of groups I have friends who make me feel unworthy, pathetic, annoying, and stupid. And then I have friends who cultivate me. I tend to shy away from the first group, once I realize it happening.
But, if I can find a group of people I can truly be *me* with (still havent found it) then they will cultivate who I am, and in socializing with them I will become a better person. I will also become a more self aware person.
So yes, at first it is a competition... but after awhile the competition goes away.
BTW, I always look up to you when Im around you. You seem very intelligent, patient, and wise and always provide relevant feedback.
