And I have lots of funny stories, a handful of pics, and one broken toe. See, I thought about NOT getting a broken toe, but I decided I needed to treat myself - we only had that opportunity once, right?
But because this silly toe is throbbing, I'm not going to stay at the computer and regale you with stories. Nope, instead I'm going to do this theatre survey I shamelessly ripped off of Alex. I didn't even buy him a drink. What a hussy.
Awesome Theatre Survey
REAL NAME: Maureen Elizabeth Eller
LAST SHOW YOU ADDED TO YOUR RESUME: Directing Narnia at TMP
LAST SHOW YOU AUDITIONED FOR: This survey is decidedly actor-biased. Typical. The last show I auditionED was Narnia.
DID YOU GET INTO IT: Nope, after casting I decided I was awful and quit the project. Then the theatre offered me millions, so I came back.
LAST SONG YOU USED AT AN AUDITION: Wellll, I coached someone else's audition with "God Help the Outcasts" recently - which coincidentally, is the last song *I* auditioned with, as well.
FAVORITE THEATRE (VENUE): Hummmm... The Kennedy Center in DC. It's all about the lavish golden pillars, man. You need those to really create good art.
FAVORITE PLAY: I really like "All in the Timing" by David Ives, lots of stuff by Christopher Durang, and "How I Learned to Drive" by Paula Vogel. I should have more thoughtful choices - blame it on the toe.
FAVORITE MUSICAL: Rent
FAVORITE ROLE & FROM WHAT SHOW: Mary Warren from the "Crucible". Or Sarah from "Translations" - playing a mute learning to speak was fun.
NAME A THEATRE SUPERSTITION: I HATE superstitions, I think they're retarded.
LAST PART YOU PLAYED IN A SHOW: I don't remember, it's been awhile.
YOUR GOAL IN SHOW BUSINESS: Paying the bills as a director/designer and feeling artistically challenged. Wherever that can occur.
FAVORITE DIRECTOR: Right now I'm thinking Libby Appel, Macbeth at OSF was awesome.
WHAT WAS YOUR VERY FIRST SHOW: ...Bus Stop? I think?
HAVE YOU EVER HAD A DANCE SOLO: No one's wanted to use my cabbage-patch. Their loss!
HAVE YOU EVER HAD A SINGING SOLO: A bit.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN THE LAST PERSON TO TAKE A BOW: Yeah, but acting days are hard to remember. Up the Down Staircase, maybe.
NAME A SHOW YOU'VE DONE MORE THAN TWO TIMES: Much Ado, Romeo & Juliet. I love R&J, but I'm gonna shoot myself if there aren't several years before the next run.
HAVE YOU BEEN TO NEW YORK: Yes, a few times, and I MISS IT!
HAVE YOU BEEN TO LA: Yes, and I HATED it.
SCARIEST PART OF AN AUDITION: Not knowing what the director wants.
BEST PART OF AN AUDITION: Callbacks in one big group. I'm competitive.
NAME A SHOW YOU WOULD NEVER DO AGAIN: Mae West.
NAME A SHOW YOU COULD DO FOR YEARS: Huhhh...
NAME A SHOW YOU WOULD LOVE TO DO BUT HAVE NEVER BEEN IN: Some of the adaptations from Ray Bradbury's "The Illustrated Man", a yet-to-be-written adaptation of Alvin Schwartz' "Scary Stories", Richard Link's "A Little Princess", a full length by Delondra Johnson.
NAME A PERSON YOU'D LIKE TO WORK WITH AGAIN: God, so many! Rita Giomi, whom I am about to do Jason with (check), Lathrop Walker, whom I am about to do Jason with (check!), Terri Brown, Scott Coopwood, Amy Hill, Shayne McNeill, Joanna Horowitz, Hans Altweis, Amy Thone, Jennifer Zeyl, the upstart crow ladies, and on and on and on...
WHAT ARE YOU AUDITIONING FOR NEXT: Not sure what my project after Jason will be, possibly a design.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PERFORMING: Since I was 9, but growing up in this family, it feels like a life-long endeavor.
DO YOU CARRY YOUR HEADSHOTS AROUND WITH YOU: I carry headshots of some of my favorite actors that I've worked with. Never know when the opportunity will come to pimp someone out.
DO YOU KEEP IN TOUCH WITH PAST CAST MEMBERS: As much as possible; I don't like losing theatre friends - they're the only ones with the same hours.
ON A SCALE OF 1-10 HOW IMPORTANT IS GETTING PAID: Siiiiiigh. I WANT to say 10, but really it depends on the artistic fulfillment. I've already learned that some things you gotta do for free, so you aren't stuck in bad community theatre for life.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE: As an actor, Ms. Barrett in "Up the Down Staircase," when Eric threw his temper tantrum and knocked the desk clear off the stage. As a director, "The Vagina Monologues" when the Ballroom ws stuffed at around 100 people over max capacity, and the whole room chanted "Cunt! Cunt! Cunt!" As a designer, the first time I nailed the crazy-cpmplicated sequence in "Cyrano" and Coopwood told me I was "money".
WHAT'S SOMETHING EMBARRASSING OR UNEXPECTED THAT HAPPENED TO YOU WHILE ON STAGE: Learning how to kiss for the first time with a less-than enthusiastic Curly.
WHO IS THE MOST DIFFICULT PERSON (ON STAGE OR OFF) THAT YOU HAVE EVER WORKED WITH: Yeah, I'm not that dumb. But I will say I saw her recently in Seattle! Yikes!
EVER BEEN NAKED ON STAGE?: Ummmmm, no.
WHO OR WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST INSPIRATION OR INFLUENCE?: Seeing crappy theatre really inspires me, oddly. Kind of an "I Can Do That!" type thing goin' on.
IF YOU COULD BE A RICH FAMOUS PORN STAR OR A STRUGGLING THEATRE ACTOR WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE? A struggling director/designer?
BEST PROFESSIONAL SHOW(S) YOU'VE SEEN: RCS's "Hamlet" in London, OSF's "Macbeth" in Ashland, and I really really enjoyed "Kuwait" at Theatre Schmeatre here in Seattle.
BEST COLLEGE SHOW(S) YOU'VE SEEN: U of Maryland has a show at Nationals - the original puppet show "Buried" which played at the Kennedy Center. It was flawed, but also one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen.
BEST AMATEUR/COMMUNITY SHOW(S) It's been too long since I've seen one. How bad is that?
BEST HIGH SCHOOL SHOW(S) YOU'VE SEEN: Uhm... okay, I'm biased and my kids weren't technically high school, but Narnia was pretty kick-ass.
ONSTAGE, HAVE YOU EVER...
a) Been killed?: No, but I've been a killer.
b Been drunk / stoned?: Yes.
c) Played someone half your age?: No.
d) Played someone twice your age?: Sylvia Barrett, probably a couple others.
e) Cried?: Yes!
f) Fired a gun?: Only to test before someone else used it onstage.
g) Driven a car?: No.
h) Been drenched?: Yes. In wool. That sucked.
i) Been in a dream sequence?: Not that I remember.
j) Been kissed? Yes, several.
IF YOU WERE ON BROADWAY RIGHT NOW, WHAT SHOW WOULD YOU WANT TO BE IN AND WHAT ROLE WOULD YOU PLAY?: I think I'd like to give Abbie a go from "Desire Under the Elms", or change gender and play Charlotte in "I Am My Own Wife".
