History was interesting today. We talked about the roots of music and how the most criticized form is rap music. Now see, I come from a heritage where rap is all we listen to. Rap is an artform within itself. These artists are real, they're speaking truth. They know what it's like to be on the streets, to live in the hood where anything good rarely happens. I understand that some people don't like rap music because it is profane, sexual, and sometimes seems ignorant. Some people say " well I can't even understand what they're saying". That's fine, it happens. But ya know, I'm upset only because I feel like people are criticizing an artform they've never given a try. I know most of you hate rap music, but that's who I am. Yeah, we walk around the hallways reciting lyrical rhymes because that's how we do, that's who we are. We represent our heritage. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, I'm just making a general statement. ( And no kerstin, this isn't about your journal entry either.) This is just something that eats away at my soul. This is who I am, this is my life. I live for reality and what's real. I'm very open-minded when it comes to music, because that's what keeps me going. But please people, don't sit out there and criticize all the bad aspects of rap music. It may not be your taste, but for the most part, its the taste of a huge population that is continuing to grow... Thank you.
