“How did I get sucked into this…? I’m in one of the safest cities in the Northeast…”
“I’m sorry…”
“Its not your fault… Its this idiot’s fault-“
“I’M NOT AN IDIOT!”
“Then stop shouting! Jeeze I thought that was the hostage’s job to be the screaming banshee…”
“Maybe agonizing the villain isn’t a good idea?”
“What is he gonna do about it? Shout louder?” A crack rang out as a girl fell the floor taking the chair she was tied to with her. She glared up at the fuming petty Villain named Megaphone. He wasn’t anything like the villains from Gotham but that didn’t apparently stop him from bashing her in the face. Matthew could see the swelling on her cheek. That had to hurt but the girl barely shed a tear
“SHUT UP! SHUT UP!” Hissed the distraught villain as he stomped around the dimly lit small room. “JUST BE QUITE WILL YOU! AND DON’T TRY ANYTHING FUNNY!” He walked to the door, stomped out, and slammed the door behind him.
Matthew found himself staring at the girl on the floor as she snorted. “If I had known it was that easy to get him out of the room I would have tired that sooner…”
“… What?” He asked and watched as she struggled with her rope bound hands much like his own. Their feet weren’t bound and she was able to get the chair standing again because of it.
“Well now that he left we can start planning an escape.”
“… What?!” He hissed now and watched as she struggled more with her bonds. With no luck she blew the black strands of short hair out of her face.
“So my name’s Christina. But don’t call me that. I go by Chris.”
“O-oh! My name’s-“
“Matthew, right?” He stared at her. “Nametag.”
“Oh… Right…” He probably looked just as embarrassed as he felt cause she was smirking at them.
“You’re blushing.”
Yep knew it…
“So why did Loudmouth kidnap you?”
“Me? Don’t you mean us?” He watched as she rustled with the ropes.
“No I mean you. I was just an extra person he wasn’t planning on. So?”
He thought about it for a second. It honestly didn’t take him long to figure it out as he let out a groan. “Oh… He was looking for that new team…”
“New… What? I hope your not talking about baseball or something.”
“Errr… No… I mean that new super hero team… They’ve come into my shop once or twice for ice cream… I guess that guy found out?”
“You sound awfully calm about that…”
“What’s there to worry about? I mean he’s not gonna kill us right?.. Right?!” Now that he thought about it, he had heard once that some villains killed civilians all the time-
“Calm down, I doubt this guy would go that far. Plus I’m going get us out of here. I can’t get free of this knot thou. You have anything to cute it with?”
“Uh I don’t- Wait! I have a knife!”
“You have a knife! Why didn’t you say so sooner!?”
Matthew flinched at her stone cold gaze with look, thankfully, more annoyed than angry. “I don’t usually have it! Its just for boxes at work.”
“Which pocket?” She asked suddenly as her gray, or were those brown eyes look at him and then to the door.
“Left but why-“ Matthew tried to ask seeing as he couldn’t reach it himself. He watched as she hopped her way over to him. Sliding up next to him she reached over and- He froze. He felt warm hands fumble around looking for the pocket, feeling for the opening. “U-Uhhh-“
“Shush! I’ve almost got it!” Small hands slipped into his pocket and he, as much as he hated to admit it, squeaked. “What?!” She stopped her work, hands still in his pocket, and turned to stare at him. He just couldn’t help with their faces so close that she was actually very pretty even with her tomboy looks.
Matthew blushed and looked away, “Uh nothing. Continue.” He tried very hard to ignore the hands pulling out the small knife from his pocket.
“Got it!” He heard the click of the knife being extended and the slice of the ropes. He watched as Chris stood up from her bounds grinning madly. “I’ll get you in a sec.” She walked around to the back of the chair and sliced through the ropes without much trouble. “Nice knife.”
“Er thanks?” He was sure it was a compliment as she looked at again in the light. “You can keep it.” Matthew wasn’t sure why it came out of his mouth but he was glad. He learned that Chris had a brilliant smile.
“Sweet~” She grinned and steeped to the door.
He followed after her realizing that he was taller than her by a few inches. “What are you going to do-“ Not bother to wait for him to even as a question she kick the door opening it with a slam. “W-Was that locked?!”
“Probably.” Chris replied and stepped thought the doorway.
“H-HOW DID YOU GET OUT?” Matthew flinched back into the doorway and tried to hide behind Chris. “YOU WERE TIED UP!”
“Were! Not so much any more!”
“YOU BITCH!” Megaphone held up his loudspeaker ready to blast them.
“Not so fast!” Wow, she moved fast. Matthew stared in awe as before Megaphone could even let out a single sound, Chris socked him right where he had hit her sending him collapsing on the ground.
“Wow… Looks like you guys don’t need any help…” The two looked up to see- Matthew blanked as his jaw dropped.
“You guys! What are you doing here?!”
“Oh so these are the guys you were talking about… I didn’t know you meant sidekicks-“
“We prefer the term partners.” Quipped Kid Flash who was now tying up Megaphone.
Robin, who had been the one to say something, flipped down from his perch and examined Megaphone. “That’s some right hook you got.”
“Thanks.”
“Are you alright?” Miss Martian flew down looking over Chris with a fine eye.
“I’m fine, thanks. You might want to check Matthew. He’s a little shaky.” The Martian flew over to the teen and started to fuss over him.
“I don’t expect people to normally be so calm after a kidnapping.” Aqualad, if Matthew remembered correctly from when they introduced themselves, looked at Chris with an analyzing eye.
“Grew up in Gotham.”
The girl in green, Artemis, let out a low whistle, “That explains it. Downtown?”
“Yeppp.” Chris looked at the only member of the team who hadn’t talked yet. Matthew watched with interest, ignoring the questions Miss Martian was asking about his heath and Kid’s glare, as she poked Superboy’s arm. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Nothing’s wrong with me.”
“I don’t think that’s what she meant.” Matthew whispered but shut up quickly as Superboy glared at him.
“I mean what are you frowning about?” Asked Chris trying again.
Superboy thought for a second, “I wanted ice cream… But he wasn’t there…” He glared at Matthew again.
“Oh... Well you saved us now so ice cream for a reward?” The team shared a look and nodded.
“We’ll drop Megaphone with the police and then get ice cream.” Aqualad decided with everyone nodding in agreement. Superboy dragged Megaphone away with Miss Martian, Kid Flash and Robin discussed what ice cream they were going to get with Artemis following along, and finally Aqualad brought up the rear giving him and Chris one long last look before turning away.
“Um…” He drawled out unable to look at Chris and shifted back and forth.
She crossed her arms, “What?”
“I wanted to…. Uh, I mean is that... er…”
“Spit it out!”
“I’m Sorry!”
She gave him a long look and sighed pinching the bridge of her nose. “Oh my gosh… Your just like a big puppy…”
“Oh come on!” He whined and looked at her in the eye. “I just wanted to ask if I could buy you some ice cream!”
“… That’s it?”
“… Yes?”
She paused for a second before bursting out laughing. “Are you asking me out on a date? Really?”
“Yes! No! Maybe?! Is this a yes?!” He whimpered at a lose of what to do.
“… Sure. Why no? ice cream sounds good right now anyway.”
“R-Really?!” Hope was not lost yet as she gave him another blinding smile.
“Really.”
Who knew kidnapping would get him a girlfriend.
