Living in Greenpoint has been awesome. I couldn't ask for a better living situation and James and Melissa are great. Saturday Sister Carrie and the Love choir played Passout. It went well: some dude from TV on the Radio saw and loved us, but what really mattered was Chris taking me by the shoulders and saying "That was fucking awesome." I don't respect anyone's opinion about music more for various reasons, and that was great. Then I played with Big Fun, and at last my silly dream of having an entire crowd dancing happened. After which I got entirely too drunk and yeah . . . wound up with an awful hangover, a found instument, a lost cord and a mad boyfriend. Oops. All resolved themselves by 3 pm.
I spent the transition from 2006 to 2007 on the L train with Charles, Melissa, and Dave and three dancing chorus boys who did pole dances when the L train clocks struck 12 as we made our way to the Black Lips show. When we got there, it was, well, awful. I think that was what raves were like only worse smelling, slightly better music and more tattoos. After about five minutes at the venue, we got beer and sat with Joe in the van until they went on. Blacks Lips were okay, I've seen them better but considering the place and loss of Randall. . . watched the sun rise the aforementioned plus Joe and some random french kid.
The year in review:
+ Graduated college
- Graduated college as an English major, thus. . .
- Unemployed all summer
- Depressed all summer
+ Kicked myself in the ass at the end of August and left NYC
+ Came back and got a job
+ Got a job that has some stories that's for sure (despite the constant paranoia of Asians, walking anywhere below Broome, and a new found hatred of tourists)
+ Didn't let Keegan give up and got a full line up for SCLC
+ Free recording at Sirius to be completed this Sunday at last
+ Big Fun gets a record
+ Found by awesome guy
+ Move the hell out of Inwood
In essence, the year really sucked, but the last couple of months made up for the first 8 or so.
