The hypocrisy of PC in our generation

This morning on my way to work I turned on the radio to my daily show.  The Mikey Show on Rock 105.3.  I realize it sounds pretty lame.  I never thought I'd be one of those people that listens to some local morning radio show.  What first got me about this one is that these guys and girls are funny.  They make me laugh almost every morning, which is a really good way to start your day.  Besides that though they've got some real good stuff behind them.  They've all got really solid heads on their shoulders and they show it by not only being funny but also talking about stuff that really matters.  Stuff that is interesting and incredibly valid in all of out lives.  Today they touched on some topics concerning the political correctness in our culture today.

To put it in a short and sweet way....  It is really frustrating to see the American people turn belly up when it comes to their beliefs, values, and traditions just to avoid insulting people that think a different way.  I'm not saying that everyone is like this but i feel its becoming more and more prevalent especially in the media and politics.    On the other hand, i think this has led to a sort of vacuum, especially in the political world.  There are people that are craving and in need of some sort of leader that really has some intense, specific beliefs.  I believe people really had some high hopes for Obama and the things he talked about during his campaign, they were convinced he was one of these leaders.  Now.. we might not be so sure.  We've still got another 3 years to really figure that out though.

Another thing i've noticed...  The older I get, the more patriotic I find myself becoming.  It's almost amusing because in high school I used to be very... not patriotic.  I think now I understand our country and how it works somewhat better.  And I can truly say that I'm proud to be an American regardless of who our president is and what stupid mistakes he commits.

Funny though... We've been watching a lot of foreign films lately.
If you want to see some really good flicks than check these out:

The Lives of Others - Takes place in Eastern Germany a couple of years before the fall of the Berlin Wall.  Somewhat of a love/spy film.  Not much action but suspenseful and an interesting look into what it may have been like to live through that time period.

Downfall - The last 10 or so days of Hitler's life before he committed suicide.  Partially filmed from the perspective of one of his personal secretaries.  From what I understand the movie is very historically accurate except for a few uncertain points.  This was incredibly good, somewhat sickening in parts.  It was really interesting to me because I've never seen a WWII movie where Hitler was a main character.  It seems almost a taboo to give an actor playing Hitler any but a few lines at most.  Valkyrie sort of did, but that movie was pretty lame to be honest.  The movie was long, 2 and a half hours. but it was worth it to me.  If you don't want to see Hitler and his NAZI cronies as human than don't see this one.

Black Book - This was awesome.  Based on true events.  Plenty of action.  The main character is a young jewish woman who becomes part of the Danish Resistance and infiltrates the NAZI headquarters by hiding her ethnicity and becoming a secretary.  Just a great movie.  Probably not the most historically accurate but still great.
