I wait, therefore I take picture of my #shoe, a photo by

Have you ever sat and reflected on all that you've written online and in your paper journal?
And not just read it - saying, "wow, what a place I was in back then," - but truly taking it all in. Allowing it to wash over your body like a calm ocean wave?
I did.
Then I did it again.
Okay, then one more time for good measure.
From Eknath Easwaran:
May 5
"Nothing great is created suddenly, anymore than a bunch of grapes or a fig. If you tell me that you desire a fig, I answer you that there must be time. Let it first blossom, then bear fruit, then ripen."
- Epictetus
All true spiritual development takes place little by little. From day to day you seem to make no progress, but when you glance back to the year before, though you have vastly farther to go, you realize that your nervous system is more resilient, your will stronger, your senses more responsive, your mind and relationships more secure; your goal is that much clearer before your eyes.
It is not very helpful to ask, “Why am I not making much progress? Why are there still so many difficulties in my way? Why can’t I surmount them?” It takes time and labor, but the tree will bear fruit.
:)
If someone handed me a clip of paper back in 1999 saying, "One day you will feel totally at peace with who you are, and you will help others come to feel at peace, too," it would have made me feel really squicky.
For years and years I had a lot of time and effort put into being who I was at the time: scared and unable to move past my own insecurities, so the world seemed a horrible place.
But then I got better. *grin*
Anyway...enough of all that rot, then. Time to move forward, I say!
In case you don't know this, because you weren't following me on FB, but I have a secret crush on the musician Sufjan Stevens.
Here is one of the reasons why...
It is rare that I can find a music that everyone likes. Classical music, or NPR is almost always playing in the background noise of our home, but music is always personal.
Thanks to the lovely people at Pandora.com, I am able to spend time in aural heaven. New music comes my way, and the YouTube gods provide me with the ability to listen at will (or whim). So wonderful...so wonderful. :)
In other news, I just finished reading The Wild Wood by Charles de Lint (8th reading). His work always takes me to that wonderful place inside where magic and reality are blended together like a nice cake or pie.
Enough about me. How in the heck are YOU!
With love and hope and joy,
Kimbo
