TV Thoughts

This is why it's no fun to get caught up on popular shows while seasons higher than you've watched are airing on TV.

I'm on about episode 13 of Season 5 right now. Izzie's been talking to Denny all season, and he just did his "I'm here FOR YOU" thing and she was all "HOLY SHIT I'M SICK." Way to go, lady. Of course, the entire time I've been watching this season, I've known that Izzie's been seeing Denny not because she's crazy, not because she has some weird sexual desires resurfacing, not because sex with Alex sucks, but because she has brain cancer. How do I know? Because I accidentally channel-surfed to the Season 5 finale on the TV before I even started watching this season. (Yeah, I know about Meredith and Derek getting engaged, too.)

Same damn thing happened yesterday. I finished Survivor, so I'm flipping channels trying to remember which one Supernatural is on (not that I'm watching that yet--I have the current season's episodes downloaded but, like Gossip Girl, I haven't had a chance to watch them yet--grad school and a full-time job keep a girl busy!), and I land on the Season 6 premiere with George brain dead on a table and Izzie opening her eyes. Thanks, TV. Thanks. So now I know that two characters I really like (okay, "really like" is pushing it--George's character has done about all he can do and there's not much story left there, and Izzie can be painfully annoying) are dead or dying by the end of the season I'm currently watching, and it's sad. I turned it off pretty quickly and switched on the XBox to watch another S5 episode before Project Runway came on at 10, but still. It was actually really hard not to cheat and keep watching.

Also, I realize there's a lot of backstage drama with this show, and I've missed a lot of the buzz because it's taken me ages to get caught up. There's probably a lot more behind T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl leaving than I know. Same with Isiah Washington, a season or two back.

Rant over. I'm very adverse to being spoiled because I enjoy TV the most when I see shows from start to finish, from premiere of first season to finale of last season, without knowing what's going to happen. My curiosity unfortunately gets the best of me sometimes, but this time it wasn't me doing some Internet-snooping (like I kinda sorta did with Battlestar Galactica a teensy little bit...)--it was TV being evil. =)

In other news, the Project Runway results were pretty upsetting last night! (Although not for the Models of the Runway show, which made me happy--major switch-ups create awesome drama, and I was perfectly satisfied with who left and very happy that Vanessa and Kojii got to stay). But seriously, poor Ra'mon! I didn't think the space reptile dress was fantastic, but he showed serious guts and creativity, as opposed to boring Louise (and Gordana, who I like just fine... when she's not putting me to sleep).

I think not having regular judges (I miss Michael and Nina!) is working against the contestants--in New York, the more talented ones usually got to stay if they had a one-week slip-up, at least this early in the season. But with judges who haven't seen previous runway shows, who don't know the generally weaker designers from the generally stronger ones, it makes it harder. More interesting, possibly, but harder. We might be able to expect more of this sort of elimination until the competition gets really fierce and only the really good people are left. I, personally, would have liked to see more of Ra'mon.

I'm also really enjoying Top Model this season, which I'm a bit surprised about. The girls, being "petite" models (they range in height from 5'3" to 5'7"), seem to feel like they have more to prove because they're technically "too short" to be top models.

And after 19 seasons, I might finally be getting burnt out on Survivor. I hope this season reels me in soon; I'm not really feeling it after just the first 2 episodes.

♥!
