A way to stick it to LJ/SA without having to migrate? Drop those Plus/sposnored accounts?

If you haven't heard of the mass journal deletions/suspensions, you can get a fair picture of it from liz_marcs's recent entries.

From all I've read, I agree with liz_marcs's assessment that this post by bubble_blunder is probably a very accurate picture of what we can and can't expect. The upshot is that no amount of wailing, emails, or threats to never pay money for LJ services again will work: LJ/SA has not only other holdings and companies, but ads now -- they don't need us. The only real threat, bubble_blunder says, is significantly decreasing the ad viewership so that not only LJ/SA but its advertisers take note. I agree on this point. bubble_blunder goes on to say that the only real way to do this is to take our business elsewhere, period -- but that this will likely never happen. And again, I agree -- on the "will never happen" part.

But is it the only way?

There has been one more alternative suggested, involving telephones.

But what about something simpler, something requiring less involvement/getting off your ass (which, frankly, greatly increases the probability that people will actually do it)?

If the clincher is ads and how many people see them -- what about a mass reversion from Plus/sponsored back to basic? Wouldn't that put a sizable dent in ad viewership? Or at least help supplement the number of people who actually leave LJ?

Would this work? If people think this will then by golly, drop those ads, pronto, if you have them, and entreat your friends to do the same. Punch them where it hurts, guys. Punch them riiiight in the wallet.
