So we're all familiar with the concept that you learn something new every day, well here's what I learned this past week. Last Saturday, I was at The Concorde (Buckhead Home #2) up to my usual no-goodery, when the amount of beer I consumed was turning my tummy. I decide to smoke a cigarette but that makes me feel worse, so I lay down trying to clear my head and get back to reality. As I lay down with visions of sugar plums dancing in my head, the Black Eyed Peas video Don't Phunk With my Heart comes on. Not a minute into that song and I am leaping into the bathroom to puke my brains out! I vomited for the length of that sick joke of a song and upon exiting the Little Gruftis room, I felt better. I am not Catholic and have never been to confessional, but having to puke because I listened to the Black Eyed Peas kind of feels like redemption for my sins. The lesson learned is PBR and Bubble Gum Rap does not mix well. Although, in other music news I purchased the new Gorillaz album Demon Days. I was a fan of the first album because it was produced by Dan the Automator so when I caught news of a new one, I was already excited before even hearing the iPod commercial. After learning that The Automator had no hand in this album, I was a little disappointed but pleasantly surprised after hearing the album this week. The majority of the production work was done by Danger Mouse and Damon Albarn(singer for Blur). I'll save the full review for IRL discussion, but this album has brilliant contributions from: MF Doom, De La Soul, Roots Manuva, Marina Topley-Bird, some children's choir and it even has a song with Dennis Hopper reading a story! WTF!?!
So yeah, if you're gonna buy any new music this weekend, I recommend you purchase Demon Days from Gorillaz because it's good summertime drinkin tunes. Do not purchase Monkey Business from Black Eyed Peas. That shit will phunk with your tummy and make you toss cookies. Bad rap, don't do it.
