This weekend, my family and I celebrated my grandfather's 90th birthday party in northern California. It was a lovely luncheon at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club, filled with lots of lovely, old people. My grandfather isn't one to show much emotion, but I think he had a nice time, and was glad to see almost 150 people turn up, some older than he.
Assuming I'm still around, I'll turn 90 in 2073. So - far - away, but I bet Grandpa Willy thought 2009 was pretty far too back when he was 25 in 1944.
Here is a list of 10 things, some silly and some serious, for which I am hopeful by 2073:
1. Peace in the middle east - on everyone's minds right now
2. Flying cars
3. A cure for cancer
4. Those pizzas from "Back to the Future" that are really tiny and that get huge and delicious after you bake them in your oven for a minute
5. Great grandchildren (Grandpa Willy got this one with my baby second cousin Lucas)
6. A way to train pets how to use a regular toilet, if they stil exist
7. Expanded, safe, cheap, and reliable public transportation throughout Los Angeles
8. On demand everything - entertainment content, food, consumer products - but without the bad "Wall-E" side effects
9. Robotic, or in the very least, longer-living dogs (not Cyborgs, but dogs that can live as long as you do - a thought after seeing "Marley & Me" last nigt)
10. A way to preserve and/or revive spoiled foods, which will eliminate trash, waste, and feed millions
