Camp Liberty: Day 8

May 17, 2005 05:48

Good morning,

It's hard for me to believe that I have been here for a week. I wish I could say that it feels like I just drove past Ross Valley, or just walked out the door at the fire house, or just saw my family... but it doesn't. I've been trying hard to get my heart here, trying to make distance seem like a non-issue. It's difficult to do when you have a lot of down time where you can sit and think. I figure that conquering the mind is just a stage, though... just another challenge that goes with the territory.

I'm still sticking with the workout program, focusing on different muscle groups on different days. So far, so good. A couple of the guys in my group are developing bad coughs due to the dust in the air. A couple of them are taking OTC medications to control their body's reaction. Other than that, the group is doing well. We took our HazMat Operations practical exam yesterday, twas nothing exciting. We have our written today, and we move on to the Firefighter courses tomorrow.

I've taken a couple of good pictures here, though I still don't know when I will be able to upload them. I wouldn't expect any within 3 weeks.

It is a tease being able to look up the weather at home and seeing "70 and sunny" as I sit here in a room where the air conditioning is trying desperatly to keep up with 100+ degree temperatures. I've gotten pretty used to the heat by now, and still no sun burn :)
