Stovetop Apple Crumble

In the great crisp versus crumble debate I come down on the side of crumble, simply because that’s what my mom calls it. Here’s a recipe for making crumble without an oven. You can use it the next time you go camping. Or live in a aluminum-sided styrofoam shack like we do.

You'll see some cookies in the picture. I was too lazy to buy flour and since I love those cookies already, I figured what the hell may as well use them as my crumble base and there’d be no need to add sugar.

1. Crush cookies into powder.

This stuff… you know I have no idea what this is.

I went to the mart to search for oats but couldn’t find any so bought this instead. Jin says it’s used to make homemade liquor. Either that or it helps old people poop. I boiled it first (along with a tablespoon of margarine) then when it was mushy I threw it and the water in with the crushed cookies.

2. Mix into goop. Add sugar if you want to.

3. Cook until mostly dry. After it’s cooked spread on a dish or plate or wax paper and leave it to cool.

4. Peel and slice apples. I stole these from the apple depot next door. They were not the prettiest apples I’ve ever seen. But they were delicious. I added some sliced ginger, a bit of brown sugar, and some fresh pressed apple cider to the pot and left it to slow cook.

5. Read a book, watch TV, or play a video game until the crumble is cool and the apples mushy.

Once the apples are done you are finished. Cut some crumble and break it up in a bowl. Add your apples, milk or ice cream, then some more crumble on top.

And there you are. Stovetop apple crumble.
