Urgh, I am in such a weird mood. I just got home from shopping with Abbey. FINALLY, and i mean FINALLY we got some food. I thought I would be eating crumbs off the floor if we went another day without food!
Today I started my critical care paramedic (CCEMT-P) Course. It should be an interesting 10 weeks. It is though Kellogg community college and the university of maryland baltimore county.. It pushes me real close to the flight paramedic job i want.. granted i need at least 1 more year before i apply.. I am taking this course with 2 other co-workers. Don and Rosemarie.. they rock! I used to work with Don in the ER.
I also attended a CPR conference/training for a new device that will be used in CPR and should aid us Paramedics and hopefully increase the surviviability.
Speaking of CPR and Sad news.. Yesterday i had a CPR... :( Very very very very sad incident. A 36 year old accidently choked himself when he got caught between the back of the truck and a lawn machine. I am still shocked by it. I was very sad after the incident for a good couple of hours. Put it this way, when i rolled up in the tahoe, the guy was hanging out of the back of this van with his feet off the ground and all i remember is the cops running and trying to free this guy and they got him on the ground and me yelling to our dispatch on the radio to hurry my ALS ambulance up and then "Cardiac arrest! Cardiac Arrest!!!" The young man was later pronounced dead in the ER. Very very sad story. It kinda just upsets me that he probably has kids and a family. Its still is in my head the picture of the guy hanging with his feet dangling from the truck... urgh, it just pops in my head.
I do want to thank Gideon (Dispatcher and who was on the phone with the 911 caller) and my friends/coworkers who were on the call together that could help each other cope with it a little better..
I also had a not so good call this past week too. Last sunday.. a 3 year old girl was run over by her father accidently. It was sad, she was so traumatized. She was serious but however stable at the same time. I would be sooo confused if i was 3 and a fricken car ran me over and pushed my face into the ground. However, the little girl was very cute and i got her to calm down by talking about blues clues and cartoons in which i have no clue about...lol I never watched cartoons as a kid..still don't like them..
Oh, another thing. This whole Echo unit thing is making me go crazy! I am soo fed up working 12 hours in a nice tahoe (only good thing about the job) 12 hours ALONE! I mean I bring things to do such as a TV and DVDs but it is boring when you have no one to talk to!!! I come home from working the tahoe and will seriously go straight to the fridge and take out a nice cold alcoholic beverage. I swear, i feel like i am turning into an Alcoholic but the stress i can't take it no more. I rather have someone to talk to. I mean, doing 911 calls and only 911 calls in a certain city is nice but I cannot take it anymore.
So with that said, we had a new shift bid for work and i bidded on ALS shifts. However since i did the echo medic thing, my seniority for ALS was low and i ended up getting the 11am-11pm shift. Oh well, i'd rather get to sleep in and get off at that time in the night. It slows down at night and might get more of a chance to do 911 calls :) But seriously, those are getting old...lol I sound burnt out and i have been a Paramedic for only 6 months! haha This echo medic is just making me goo crazy.
