"Do you ever think about what happened in the past, Lord Marth?"
He didn't respond. The days in Aegean were at times filled and didn't leave much time for relaxation. The day he met with Eirika, he had suffered through an exam, one that he was sure he had done well on, but had spent a few too many hours slaving over the study for. As a result, the moment she drew him to her lap, he placed aside his initial protests.
The sound of the breeze and the idle fingerings of her hand within his hair coerced him into sleep, perhaps the first one he'd had in a while that was filled with rest. Soothing. Eirika had done this many times. Amidst the aching in his heart each time he saw her, he knew there was something that drew him close. Perhaps it was her similarity to Elice... Or even to Sheeda.
"No... I suppose you wouldn't," she commented gently. "I don't think you remember much at all. You remembered me, though, and being forgotten would hurt more than dying on the front lines of war."
Her head inclined and she drew him close to her.
"That world was so unfair. Innes tells me often that not everything is fair. Seth... said things like that too. Everyone is here, though, and I'm not sure I want them all here. Perhaps it would be wrong of me to will my husband away."
Her lips met his forehead and her tone softened.
"My marriage does not change how I feel about you, Marth. You are my friend. You are my family. You are in the very depths of my heart."
She paused and her lips began to curl into a smile. This moment was perfect. Whether he was asleep or awake seemed to make no difference. It was his company that she liked. It was his presence that she deemed precious.
"I love you."
Right she was, Marth thought. This moment was perfect.
Oh, and look at that. I did some writing.

And I'm looking forward to seeing the Ziddy and Steiner, and Kuja in aegean_it.
