'Justified' scores FX's second-best series premiere ever

Mandi Bierly FX’s critically acclaimed Elmore Leonard adaptation Justified premiered to 4.2 million viewers Tuesday, making it the basic cable network’s highest-rated original series debut since The Shield, which was greeted by 4.8 million viewers in 2002. The drama, which stars Timothy Olyphant as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, was a particular hit with men: In terms of FX premieres, it ranked second behind The Shield among men 18-49; last night, it was TV’s No. 1 program in the demo for the 10 p.m. hour.
FX will run encores of the Justified premiere Friday at 11 p.m. EST and Sunday at 11:30 p.m. EST. Episode 2 airs Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST.
