I'm still trying to figure out what the changes are. This comment box right here looks completely normal, but I think it might depend on the journal / comm? It even looks like I can create a subject. Let me see. Yes, looks like it's going to work!

Yup, this layout is another of the Favoured Few -- I think it's one of the Expressive family. My guess is that if you have one of the layouts that allow for customised comment pages, and you have the customisation enabled, even if you don't have a custom page coded, the existing layout style overrides their latest exercise in craptastic codation and the features are preserved.

Yup, Expressive - and I had Minimalist before that. I seem to have good taste in journal styles. ;P
Where's this "view in my style" tickybox you've been mentioning? I really, really hate viewing everything in my style (I get so confused about whose journal I'm on), so I never bothered to remember it if I've seen it, but it's better than not having my Expand buttons. o_O

Any time you're on someone else's journal, including a comm, you can look at the top of the page, where it says (for example) 'you are viewing lolmac's journal' or 'lolmac is your mutual friend'. Next to that item is a ticky box that says 'View in own style'. Check it. It will override the existing style and layout with yours -- very handy when viewing a truly awful MySpace-style layout. Also handy for regaining full commenting features.
The ticky box is not always visible, however, when you're in an individual comm post and you're trying to make a comment. In those cases, you can back out, tick the box, and go back in; or open another LJ tab, tick the box, go back to the tab where you were trying to comment, and hit Refresh. The style override wiull apply in all tabs/windows/etc.
Speaking of customisation, I see you've set up the custom userhead feature. Illya, right?

I don't have the tickybox (although I'm familiar with the feature from Dwth's similar "Reload page in style:" links)... the rest of this comment wound up over at your workarounds post. *g* But I am putting "?style=mine" in a sticky-note for reference.
Yup, Illya! togsos did all the coding and stuff - I just copy-pasted it into my CSS box. XD I've never gotten the hang of coding much beyond comment-level HTML, myself.

Have you visited my own journal lately? The Zaphod Beeblebrox head stopped working, so I swapped out both the community and the individual head for new ones. *g*
Re: small subjectslolmacDecember 22 2011, 19:21:45 UTC
The coding applies one design to all users, except for users who have their own custom heads, and a different one to all communities. I think the coding you use is a bit different, since it's applying your userhead to allah_sulu in place of his own custom one.
If LJ is still around in a couple of months [snerk], I may do a post signal-boosting allah_sulu with a how-to on how to apply the userheads.

Apparently it depends what journal style you have. Here's the post where I first noticed the changes this morning, if you want to see what the new page looks like - but thankfully, my journal was in one of the styles that didn't get changed. So far. O_O
