I'm reposting this, because it is important and thought-provoking:
Across the Digital Divide by
seanan_mcguire It's about ebooks, the poverty line, and the "digital divide" between people who have access to technology and those who don't.
I'd like to write my own essay about the digital divide, because it's something that a whole lot of people don't even notice - I certainly didn't, till I wound up living below
the official poverty line for nearly a year. I ran into a startling number of assumptions in that time about what I could afford, what my life and possessions "should" be like, because I look and act and sound like an "average" white American adult.
But that's an essay that needs a lot more research and thought put into it, so for now - just read the one I linked, okay? Because it is important. Also it's by a much better writer than me. XD
