Outside the door of MHA #10; Thursday Early Evening [ 07/16 ].

Jul 16, 2009 13:24

While the day had been a relatively good one, Daisy still couldn't shake that slightly restless feeling she'd been having, which she might have easily chalked up the fact that she hadn't been....well, we'll say out as much as she usually did. In fact, she was pretty sure it'd actually been well over a week since she had a hook-up. So it really ( Read more... )

"Who is it?" Ben called from the other side of the door. He had heard the whole thing. He was just being a dork.

Daisy wrinkled her nose a little at a response like that. Because, seriously, who else on the island would sing that consistently off key?

She snorted. "Ta, see if I ever try to give you a serenade again, Ben, who is it."

Oh, but it was probably a good thing he really hadn't opened the door yet, lest he catch that blush on her.

Ben opened the door. "You know, most people just let the knocking speak for itself. What inspired the song?"

And Daisy turned around to face him. "....You?" she tried, angling at an attempt at flattery that would wipe the egg off her face and maybe even divert from the fact that it was basically true.

The only proper response to that was a kiss on the cheek and inviting her in. "Come in," Ben said after doing the first part of the proper response. "Especially if you think you have any other numbers in you."

It was definitely the sort of response Daisy could handle, grinning a little sheepishly. "Honestly, I think I might actually be all sung out at this point," she said, completely oblivious to the fact that this comment was only just setting herself up for an encore.

"Well, you do have a limited window to get back into the groove," Ben said. "I have a shift at the bar tonight, so you should be safe from singing more in a little bit."

Daisy's shoulders sunk a little. "Oh, I'd forgotten about that," she admitted. "You working at the bar tonight. I didn't know what time it was..."

Which seemed like an odd statement, at first, until Daisy realized that it was building into another song:

"I didn't know what time it was
Till I met you.
Oh, what a lovely time it was,
How sublime it was too!
I didn't know what day it was
You hold my hand.
Warm like the month of May it was,
and I'll say it was grand.
Grand to be alive, to be young,
to be mad, to be yours alone!
Grand to see your face, feel your touch,
hear your voice say I'm yours alone.."

Daisy let out a short sigh. "Well, guess I called that one wrong."

Ben really wanted to chime in about that last line of the song, but, well, life was complicated. "That song is much less sweet when you realize that a PDA takes care of the first few things. But still, thank you."

Daisy winced a bit. "Sorry about that," she said. "That sort of thing's been happening all day. I don't think I even know that song."

"Don't apologize," Ben said. "I like it. Pretty women don't sing to me nearly often enough."

"Well," Daisy grinned a little, "just give it a few moments, I'm sure another one'll crop up. Hell, I'll take requests, too."

"Requests," Ben scoffed. "I prefer spontaneity. You said you've been doing this all day?"

Daisy nodded. "There was even at one point a little handwavey rendition of I Fought the Law down at the station that involved something curiously similar to choreography."

Which didn't work out very well considering how Daisy had no rhythm and it was done all with people who had the same DNA, but...

"So you lied through song, Day?" Ben teased. "I cant imagine you ever fighting the law."

"No, no, no," said Daisy, quickly, with a little wave of her hand, "we reworked the lyrics a little so that it was more of a cautionary sort of thing. You know, a whole You fight the law and law wins; you fight the law and the wins sort of thing, in case anyone was thinking about it."
