So this is my personal 20 Random facts meme. Fascinating, I know.
In the spirit of being just like everyone else, I've also got 20 Random Facts About Remus J. Lupin written, but I don't know if anybody else has done him, so I wanted to ask if anybody's seen that before I post it. Let me know if you have!
1. I would rather spend my Saturday nights at a gay dance club than any straight bar, and frequently do. Gay men dance like nobody's business, and since there's no pressure to attract them, you can really get as down and dirty as you want. Because of this I am also addicted to gay techno.
2. I have 2 birthmarks, both bright strawberry red - one one my lower back and one on my hip.
3. The first time I smoked pot, I didn't cough at all.
4. I love my cat more than I like most real-life people.
5. I fell in love for the first time at the age of thirteen. It was one of those things doomed to end in heartbreak. In his book Generation X Douglas Coupland writes "Everyone has a gripping stranger in their lives, Andy, a stranger who unwittingly possesses a bizarre hold over you. Maybe it's the kid in cut-offs who mows your lawn or the woman wearing white shoulders who stamps your book at the library - a stranger who, if you were to come home and find a message from them on your answering machine saying, "Drop everything. I love you. Come away with me now to Florida," you'd follow them." Even after all these years he's still the one I'd follow.
6. My first real kiss happened at sixteen. I was drunk for the first time, and in one of those moments that makes perfect sense at the time but inspires bafflement later, my lips were suddenly on those of my best friend Paul, who had come out a week earlier. All things considered it was quite nice, despite the fact that I am now more acquainted with his tongue than anyone should ever be.
7. I can wiggle my ears at will.
8. I went to Catholic school for the first eight years of my education, complete with uniforms. I am now what my mother likes to call a "lapsed catholic" - agnostic and duly unrepentant.
9. When I was young my life's ambition was to be canonized. Then I got older and did some very un-saint-like things, and that went out the window. I'd rather be a fun-having heathen than have my breasts cut off, or some such rot.
10. I am a closet philosopher.
11. Last summer I went skinnydipping in a lake miles away from civilization. The night was so clear that you could see the milky way, the billions of stars in their different colors. I was all alone in the water. In some ways it was the most profound experience of my life.
12. I'm in college now, and I still sleep with the stuffed rabbit I've had since the day I was born. Her name (oh-so-creatively) is Rabbit.
13. I play guitar and sing. Not terribly well, mind you.
14. If I could, I would spend all the money I have on books.
15. I belong to that strange breed of people who drink soy milk because they like it.
16. I bawl like a baby every single time I watch Four Weddings and a Funeral and Matthew makes his "Funeral Blues" eulogy. I've seen the movie 10+ times, and still I bawl.
17. My comfort food is a classic - a grilled cheese sandwich; white bread, perfectly brown on both sides, made with cheese cut from a block and not those dodgy prewrapped plastic-like slices. With ketchup. The man of my dreams will make me grilled cheese at any hour of the day should I be in need of it.
18. There are few sounds in the world I love more than the sound of a thunderstorm.
19. I read The English Patient upwards of twenty times over the summer. I am still not sick of it.
20. As soon as I have sufficient money and a year or two of post-secondary education under my belt, I am going to move to the UK and carry on with my writerly ambitions there. Why? Don't ask me. I guess it's in my blood.
