FOURTH WALL / DO I KNOW YOU;

First and foremost, Travis LOVES to break the fourth wall. He's at least partially aware that No More Heroes is a video game, and, as a nerd, is knowledgeable about a number of series. He won't know all animes and all video games and movies (mostly because I don't know all the thing he knows) but it can be assumed that he knows at least what is popular. Particularly things that are of the mecha and magical girl genre as well as Touhou-type shooting games. I assume he's also knowledgeable about general 80's and 90's nostalgia, seeing as he grew up in that era and was prooobably glued to the TV/controller for much of his childhood... He is also a big fan of Star Wars (in his universe, called Super Wild). He keeps up with movies and everyday pop culture, so he will probably recognize any A-list superheroes (not the secret identity of course!). No More Heroes is not particularly big name, so unless your character is an avid gamer they will most likely not recognize him.

No More Heroes references a LOT of things. The ones that Travis directly interacts with (i.e. having merchandise/clothes of them, seeing them somewhere, mentioning them) will definitely be recognized, depending on the fourth walling rules of wherever he's played:
  • Touhou Project
  • General JRPGs
  • Duke Nukem
  • Star Wars
  • Sailor Moon
  • Pretty Cure
  • Other magical girl series
  • Ghostbusters
  • Terminator
  • Fire Pro Wrestling (though it's...sorta canon to his universe I think? aaaaaghghh Suda51 you and your cross-game cameos)
  • Wrestling (both American and Mexican-based)
  • Wayne's World
  • Nintendo
  • Grasshopper Manufacture (Depending on the fourth walling rules, he'll treat Grasshopper characters from other games like distant cousins he has a vague idea of, lol.)
  • Megahertz
  • Kikusakari Sake
  • Famitsu
  • Lay's and Doritos chips
  • Rocky Horror Picture Show
  • BUDO: The Art of Killing
  • Friday the 13th
  • Jeepers Creepers
  • Takashi Miike
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • Miyuki

If you think Travis would recognize/don't want him to recognize your character or their canon, comment here please? c:

ABILITIES;

Technique:
Travis is skilled at swordplay as well as physical combat. His experiences in both are varied; he's learned new techniques everywhere, from training in the Dungeon in Calgary and under a former professional wrestler to correspondence courses and video tapes. His style's rough at times, yes, but his strength is not something to be taken lightly. Travis is also quick to learn new techniques and reasonably intelligent (though nowhere near the level of DCU geniuses). He is the former 1st ranked assassin in the United Assassin Association and, from the canon point he's been taken from, is currently 2nd in rank after being expelled from the ranks after a three-year absence and having to climb the ranks again starting at rank 51. Travis also shows a nearly superhuman resistance to attacks, firearms, explosives, etc. *

Here's a ridiculously detailed list of all the wrestling moves he's capable of performing. He's at his most clever in the middle of a fight--he's got a decent sense of strategy. (For example, during his fight with Bad Girl, the wrestling moves he did were all focused on weakening her batting arm.)

He will not hesitate to kill an opponent he has defeated unless a) they are young, b) they are not an obstacle he feels he needs to eliminate, c) they earn his respect (usually by putting up a good, challenging fight) or d) he owes them. Basically, as long as you are not a psychopath or in his way, Travis will not try to kill you.

Weapons:
He owns four beam katanas (read: fancy lightsabers): the Blood Berry, the Tsubaki/Camellia, the Peony, and the Rose Nasty. All are carried clipped to his belt at all times.
*; Because No More Heroes has a LOT of over-the-top violence for comedic relief (and just because it looks really flashy and cool) Travis is a lot sturdier than your average human. He's gotten chainsaws and grenades to the face, been burned with flamethrowers and hit with axes, been punched so hard in the chest that the hand nearly went through him, been poisoned and shot at and cut with lightsabers....on and on and on. He also has special "Dark Side" moves in-game in which he slows down time, speeds himself up, becomes invulnerable, creates an aura of energy that kills everyone in the area, and/or turns into a vicious tiger. Yeah. If you didn't know by now that No More Heroes was insane, you do now! The Dark Side attacks are probably going to be omitted, so that shouldn't be too much of a worry. (Except maybe the tiger thing one day because that would be a lot of fun to play out.)

WEAKNESSES;

Travis is VERY VERY VERY easily manipulated if you're a sexy lady. If you're attractive and clever enough  to sway him, it won't take long to have him wrapped around your finger. He's also pretty gullible at times. ("Hey, who was that totally NOT plot-important person who just climbed down from your fire escape, Sylvia?" "Oh, that was, uhh...that was the newspaper delivery boy! It's faster to go out that way!" "...Hey, you're right! He's a genius!") Travis is quite cocky--though he's gotten a bit better about it recently--and easy to get worked up about something. He's sympathetic to children, people who are able to move him emotionally, and animals: his cat, Jeane, is one of the few friends he's got left.
               HEEEEY! SO CAN MY CHARACTER...

...become friends with Travis?
     While Travis is not as friendly as other characters (tbh he's kind of a jerk sometimes), feel free to ally your character with him. It'll be tough to get him to call anybody a real friend, though, so we'll just have to see.

...become Travis's enemy?
     Of course! Just expect to get profanity thrown at them on a regular basis. He may also try to fight them.

...hug/kiss Travis?
     Um. That will result in awkward and/or violence, even if your character is friends with him. (If they're female, attractive, and of legal age, he might object a little less, though.)

...have sex with Travis?
      For all his big talk, Travis rarely initiates anything unless the other party shows that they're even more willing than he is! The farthest he'll go without mutual interest--and I mean OBVIOUS mutual interest--is leering and flirting. I don't really do smut but if it does end up coming to that, please ask me. More likely than not it will be handwaved!
      Also worthy of mention is the fact that Travis is really only interested in women. With a lot of CR (and I seriously mean a ridiculous amount of CR, it will take forever and ever), I do think it'd be possible for a relationship with Travis and another man to go somewhere, but... Unless it's required for his survival, is needed for some other equally desperate situation, or involves some sort of mind-altering substance, Travis will not be getting touchdowned by any guys. Sorry. :c
...hurt Travis?
     Go right on ahead! He can take it!

...REALLY hurt Travis?
     Erm, you're gonna want to ask me first, even though Travis HAS been victim of some very outstanding violence.

...kill Travis?
     Please talk to me about it first. ;;

...fourth wall Travis?
     YES DEFINITELY. PLEASE DO, ACTUALLY. He knows he's a video game character and always has, so feel free--you don't even need to ask!
