i decided that i needed bacon for the week. it keeps well; it's versatile, and it's SO tasty.
the problem? standing up long enough to make said bacon.
at a friend's suggestion (and instruction) i baked it. SO tasty...SO easy...and lots of bacon fat to be drained off for other things!
How to bake bacon:
-lay strips out on cookie sheet (the kind with a rim)
-put in cold oven
-set oven to 425F
-cook for 20-25 minutes, depending on how crispy you like it (i did thick cut bacon for 25 minutes and it was ALMOST burned, which is how i like it)
-remove from oven, lay out on paper towel, drain fat into jar or can
benefits to baking (rather than frying) bacon:
-all your bacon is done at once
-REALLY easy clean-up...no wiping down the stove/backsplash/counter
-you can do other stuff (like make eggs or french toast...or lay down) while it cooks
-cats and dogs think oven is better than smell-o-vision
-your house will smell like BACON!
(as an aside...i really need to stop procrastinating and make a cooking icon...)
