The Love I Give...

Feb 04, 2007 07:02

I'm going to keep this as short as possible because it's 7:22AM on a Sunday. This does not mean that I'm an early riser. This means that I have yet to sleep.

Florida State is amazing. I couldn't love it more. It is literally impossible to even try.

I'm a Graphic Design major, although it could very well change, and a tentative Film Studies minor. I need to do some serious thinking about future careers because college has the tendancy to get you all mixed up about what you think and feel at any given time. I've been considering the prospects of becoming an art teacher. Also a fashion illustrator, so who can tell?

Free time consists of napping and generally wreaking havok with the illustrious Steven Jenks. (Although everyone here calls him "SteveJenks". One word. No Steven. It's weird.) We have a lot of fun. Sometimes we get a lot accomplished, sometimes we both fall asleep and end up wasting time. It's wonderful.

Things I have learned in college so far:
-College kids believe they are invincible.
They will cross the steeet with a semi headed right at them and not even blink. It's quite nice when you're the pedestrian, but it's hell when you're the driver.

-The freshman fifteen does not apply if you won't let it.
With increased walking, lots of salads and a smoothie for lunch everyday, I've already dropped 5 pounds. So there.

-Never sign up for early classes.
In my infinate wisdom, I decided a 8am Multicultural Film Studies class would be a blast. Having skipped two classes one month into the semester to sleep, I realize that afternoon classes are a requirement from now on.

-Do the reading, take the notes, and you'll be fine.
Hakuna Matatta of college. Classes arn't hard at all if you just attend them and do what is asked.

-Free Film Screenings = Best Thing in the World
Yes, as a matter of fact I did just see Marie Antoinette and Moulin Rouge and the Breakfast Club for free last month. On the big screen. With cheap concessions. Thank you for asking.

-Everyone is looking to make friends.
As soon as you realize that you are stuck on a campus with thousands of other students as eager to make friends as you are, making buddies is easy.

-Facebook.com is the quintessential college directory.
If you don't have a Facebook in college, I'm not going to say you'll die, but your chances aren't looking good. Socially speaking, Facebook is the mecca of friend-connection. After you meeting someone, you end conversation with "Facebook me!" End of story.

Okay, so I've learned academic things, as well. For example, a group of bats is a colony. See? College education.

Oh, and I should probably let all of the JM groupies like me know that I met John Mayer. Yes, it was as fantastic as you have imagined, but here's the best part.

Anyone who knows me well knows that "Wheel" is my favorite song. Anyone who knows John Mayer's music knows that "Wheel" isn't popular. Anyway, I e-mailed John and asked him to play Wheel for me at his Jacksonville show. Then I MySpaced him the day of the show and reitterated. Long story short, when it came time for the encore, John played Wheel. For me.

How do I know it was for me? I'm glad you asked.
Thing 1) I have been checking his tour site everyday, and he has only played Wheel at my show.
Thing 2) When I met him around back after the show, he took my Continuum booklet and asked for my name. When I responded "Dani. D-A-N-I." He looked up at me. We're talking serious epiphanic eye-contact. "Thank you for playing Wheel for me," I said. With a grin he began to sign my booklet, saying, "Alright!" The signatire reads: "To Dani <3 John Mayer". My roomate's reads "N-squiggle squiggle J-squiggle".

So. Yeah. I've been pretty excited about it. Thought I should let you know.

Just,
Dani
