It hasn't felt like the end of anything, which makes for awkward goodbyes, but simple small talk.

"Can you believe school is over?"
"No."

"Well, can you believe we're seniors?"
"Of course not."

At the end of such a "conversation" there comes a time for a quick evaluation of future forcasts. How serious is the moment? Are you the kind of person I'm going to run into at least a half-dozen times at Barton Springs? Will I really not see you until next year? Is it rude to say "have a nice summer"?

(You can say "Have a great birthday!" when you're at the birthday, but somehow such a command doesn't seem appropriate if you're going to see them. Should you say, "You're going to have a good summer because you're going to spend every-other waking moment of it with me!"? It isn't clear. Some cultural anthropologist ought to come investigate.)

In anycase, I've parted ways, for the time being, with LBJ. On the first day of summer, I woke around 8:30 because I couldn't help it. Cleaned my room. Did some laundry. Cleaned out my backpack. Looked at colleges. Contemplated huge baking projects. I became very domestic (maybe because I was stuck at the house) but I think I enjoyed it.

The beginning of summer was rounded out by a disco party on the town where I boogied down with Lauren and Mom. Seriously.
