The Animal Within

I had been looking forward to today's Biology class because we were going to do a really neat lab. The plan was that we would each prick our finger, prepare a slide, and count our white blood cells. I came in all glad and excited, ready to get down to buisness. We got into our lab groups, and I was totally prepared to jam the lancette into my left index finger. But, just trying to draw blood made me woozy, and after several failed attempts to puncture my skin, I began to feel very faint. I somehow ended up on the floor, feeling awful.

I was so angry. I had a genuine desire to look at my white blood cells- eosinophilis, basophils, monocytes, neutrophils, and small lymphocytes. However, my primal instincts were saying, "What the fuck do you think that you're doing!?! Sharp thing! Red alert! Unacceptable! Redirect all blood to vital organs!" My analytical rational mind could not compete, so I stayed on the floor for a while. Amelia was kind enough to let me look at her blood, but it wasn't the same.

Sigh.
