SO DC is great fun. Lets give an update. So llat Thursday I made baklava and dana and rox helped me make stuffed grapeleaves. Sebby, the best ever, ended up taking charge of the mediterranean style fish. Abuelo came over for dinner in addition to the rest of the immediate family (except Ernie, but that goes without saying, I guess). Anyway, it all came out excellently, even tho Dana tried to exclude me from the alcoholic part of the festivities by not giving me a wine glass (that's okay deedee, forgive and forget, is the policy as usual).

After a hearty meal, dana and roxanne (typical girls) decided we should ance off the weight the had put on ... and boy had they put on weight that nite -- woo! I didnt want to say anything, but ... anyway. We went to Soho after failing to get into the District -- I hate those pricks (officially). That doesn't mean I won't stop trying to get in. I'm tired of the discrimination. Those at the District may not love that I have a penis, but I do! Gosh, crazy feminists dont know the first thing about sexual profiling. But Soho was amazing nonetheless, esp since we were drunk -- or as dana like to comfortingly put it: tipsy. So lots of dancing. Lots of awkward glances at/from people -- we all know that is the best part of going out to dance. We left right at the perfect opportunity to dance with someone -- o well, next time i suppose (yea, sure). Hmm. Ok, yes, that's where I was. So we got home at 4am or so so that I could finish packing really quickly and take a supa-fast shower and be off to FTL with abuelo and dad. It was a nice ride and a nice goodbye. I didn't sleep at all that nite. I should have slept on the plane, but didnt -- instead I read.

Upon landing I called my mom and told her I had landed -- because I had jsut landed. Then I called Mikey Marshall to tell him I was there. So I get my bags (with a minor problem) and Michael arrives and we get going to his place. We have some good, stimulating cnversation -- it's really easy to talk to him, he's such a nice guy. But we get to his house and its SO beautiful. It's right on Porter Street off Rock Creek Park. I was skeptical when he told me his house was in the country but in the city -- i believe him now. It so green. Yet the metro is such a short walk away. Anything you need -- theatre, food shops, restaurants -- it's all right ehre in walking distance so the metro isn't even a necessity. But it's nice to have it, esp for a tourist like moi.

After putting my stuff down and seeing my room, Michael told me to bring my laptop -- we were going to work. Oy. BUT I HAVENT SLEPT IN SOOO LONG. CANT I JUST NAP ON THIS NICE HUGE COMFORTABLE BED. I didnt say that. I enthusiatically went along. When we got there I met all the workers at his firm. Juliya -- the AWESOME russian lady --, Pierre -- the french, ex engineering, arch student --, Audra -- she knows Italian, and almost went to Cornell, but attended Syracuse instead since Cornell wasnt accredited that year (oy, that hurts, for Cornelly) -- and I would meet Amanda later, she was out that day. I presented my portfolio to Michael and Juliya and they seemed to be mildly impressed -- they are modernists so I think they thought my attention to detail was overly meticiulous, that's okay tho.

Long story short, they put me to work on AutoCAD which is awesome because I was under the impression that I would be the office gopher considering this small firm was already filled to capacity. I have been here slightly over a week and I can say that I love the work. It is a chill work environment and I can get up on my own and come in when I want as long as I put in 8 hours. And I haven't had problems with that thus far. I've been waking up at around 830 every moring on my own and coming in and working till about 5 or 6. Thursday night I worked until about 10. Michael came in at around 9 and asked, "Are you still working?" Haha, a good sign? I don't know, it could go either way. I think yes tho. 10oclock creeped around and Michael says, ugh ... when are you leaving? I looked at the digital clock on the comp I was working on. Oy, I said, right now! Haha. He offered me a ride home in his Porsche. Haha. I like riding in it, kinda. I feel like Im in the Sports version of a tank.

So, extracurricular activities. I have been chatting on the computer SOOO much since I got here. People have been finding out Im in DC in avariety of ways and now I am jsut Mr popular apparently. I'm not sure I like it too much, but it has its perks. For instance, Ross Avila AIMed me (apparently, the alleged elitist of the community at Penn) and I think I've made a really good friend. I hope he gets to come by when he takes his roadtrip later this summer. Some snipits from out convos: Fatties (known to Ross as Fyatties), did you farted?, theatwerwfcwes, ALRHLG!, I want to minor in you!, kitties named Feldman and Bear, retarded kitties that just realised they have voices (aka, Joanna Newsom), a mutual love for the Magnetic Fields, his awesome family ...

Also, I have been busy pretty much every day. Last Saturday, I went for a walk up Connecticut Avenue (after, of course catching up on my sleep by sleeping in until 2pm, I'm sure THAT left a good impression, haha). So I walked up to Dupont Circle where there was a demonstration by LGBT deaf people. The most obscure minority in the world has come out to tell us they exist, which is cool. Afterward, I went with Michael, Lydia (his wife), Juliya, and Dima (her husband) to the Uptown Theatksjnfoasr to see Star Wars. Well, I guess it was Okay. What more could you expect. It was better thant the first two episodes but nothing tops the originals. I feel like I agree with the rest of the world on this one. WHY DID ANIKIN HAVE TO LOSE HIS FACE, THO!?! Haha. O well, the asshole kinda deserved it. But I found myself kindof rooting for him.

On that Sunday, I went to see the Nat'l Gallery. It was incredible. I caught the last day of the Toulous-Lautrec et Montmarte exhibit and saw fablous works by Monet, Boticelli, Dubuffet, Matisee, Daumier ... well, I'm not going thru the whole list. By far, however, the most awestriking piece was WHY CANT I REMEMBER ITS NAME!? Someone and the shark. You know what I'm talking about. An american painter, I jsut went blank. Oy, I need to brush up on my art history. It jsut so happened that Pride Fest was happening RIGHT outside the doors of the Gallery at the time. I went out to catch a few laughs and to eat lunch -- these things are jsut not my thing, but they are hella amusing.

i hung out with David, from Hawaii, I think on Monday -- or was it Tuesday. The point is, we saw Mr and Mrs Smith and he talks a lot. Haha. Thats cool tho -- maybe I jsut dont talk enough, but he seems to be having SOO much fun listening to himself, I dont want to interrupt. Oy. Anyway.

On Friday I got together with Marcella, you know, Gadson from DASH. I was so excited. I love Marcella. Anyway, we went to a Hookah bar and gor Fakhfakhina flavored tobacco. The waitress was really nice and kinda looked like a Wendell twin. We practically recreated our own little DASH right there and then. Haha. Not really. Later, we decided we wanted to eat there and then so we got ourselves some Lamb Vandaloo. It was SOOO delish. Marcella was expecting more potatoes tho. She orginally wanted to Order POTATO SKINS in a place that was serving Hommos, Falafel, Tabouli ... etc. THIS IS MIDDLE EASTERN ... NOT TGI FRIDAYS! Haha. Oy, it was kindof amuing, but it wouldnt have been if we had actually gotten Potato skins.

Yesterday, Saturday, I pretty much jsut lounged around the house, ate and chatted. Primarily with Ross, who also didnt seem to be having too much of a busy day. We both had evening plans tho. He was going for a nite flite and I was going for a moooovie with Michael and Julian. We saw Batman Begins. It was incredible ... and different from the others -- different themes and all. It was very very interesting. I cannot decipher whether they are going to remake the whole Batman series or if they were jsut trying to pay a little homage to the preexisting stuff with the reference to the Joker in the end. Only time will tell.

That is all I have to say right now. Its 1:15pm on a Sunday and I need something to do. I think I will do some exploring. Maybe If I loiter around the Mall long enough I will get arrested. Oh, if only I lived in the 80s. I would be on some lsit for my interest in Russia and be apprehended on the spot. ooo,. if only. Okay. Adios -- Cris
