David Zhou, get some sleep!

The Harvard Crimson just updated their plagiarism coverage ten minutes ago, as well as two hours ago. Someone recently pointed out to me that they have the most up-to-date info on the developments, and it's certainly true. Maybe David Zhou, the crack reporter who is breaking all these stories, will get a book deal (just kidding; I wouldn't wish that on him at this point, ha ha).

For instance, they just published this update:

The Crimson and their updates reminds me of my days at the Daily Pennsylvanian when some big story would come up and an editor or two would not be getting any sleep. Often, that person would be Steve Glass...okay, bad example.

Anyway, as for the KV alleged-plagiarism scandal, apparently the author's UK book tour just got canceled. This makes me a little sick. It's clear that she's learning her lesson at this point (provided she really did this on purpose, which I won't pass judgment on yet), and it's clear that we all know that copying another author's work is a bad, bad thing, and it's clear she has been excoriated and skewered in many places (take a look at the takedowns on Amazon). ...But it's still hard to see someone who is only 19 be hurt this much. I hope she has some good friends around her, as well as people who know who she really is.

One thing she has going for her is a hard-to-prounounce name; it doesn't fit easily into punchlines like "James Frey" does.

Anyway, writing in my LJ is some needed stress relief from revising my own novel, which I have to go back to at this moment. I will be up until like 2 a.m. doing that. Hopefully I'll still be able to run on the treadmill, which I've been delinquent in doing for the past two days.
