I'm seriously considering saving up to pay off some debt and then going back to school for a degree in linguistics, with possible double major or minor in comp sci and/or religion. The former would lead toward a commercial or research position in computational linguistics; the latter toward a deeper understanding of my own religion, which admittedly doesn't have much to do with a job, but at least I can fall back on the linguistics degree and my infosec experience for that. I've thought about it before, but until tonight I was never really ready to accept the fact that going back to school would require some *major* lifestyle changes. The idea that doing so might be acceptable is starting to seep into my head. It's a little scary, frankly: I put a lot of value in the fact that I'm financially quite comfortable, and the idea of giving that up shakes me.
And to any coworkers who may be reading this: this isn't happening anytime soon: I have a couple thousand dollars of debt to work through before this becomes even marginally possible.
