As a starving college student I had limited access to the premium cable channels so although I was aware of it, I missed most of QAF when it was actually on TV. When I finally caved and signed up for Netflix all five seasons immediately went on my list. I confess that I wasn't completely sold right away, the acting was not always the best and the chemistry was a little forced from time to time (please don't hate me I have become very fond of the actors but some of them had to grow on me), but the characters were so compelling that eventually I upgraded to 2 disks at a time because I couldn't stand waiting to watch the next episode. Well there are only 5 seasons and even with waiting for the next disk to arrive it didn't take too long to watch the whole thing. I just finished the final episode and I have to say that I think they really outdid themselves on season 5 and despite my initial hesitation I'm a total fan. Though out the series I love they way they portray these charters and their community, it was fun (and sometimes it was a lot of fun) it was also frequently very thought provoking. I love the way they unabashedly addressed so many social and political issues, sexuality (not just SGLBT but also an individual's right to choose how they express that sexuality), marriage, commitment, parenthood, plus so much more but especially love in all it's many forms. In my opinion (for the very little it is worth) GAF wasn't just entertaining, it was inspiring. Not to mention that I will probably have a little crush on Brian for the rest of my life (yes I'm totally one of those girls who falls for the tragically flawed hero, shake your head at me, it's ok ;-)
My timing of course sucks, finishing up this series right on the heals of HP and with the demise of my current two favorite TV couples eminent there seems to be a lot more finishing than starting going on right now. Perhaps that's my cue to try something new, what do you think?
Oh and very belated thank you to:
