Remote Backup

May 04, 2007 09:47

I've been wanting to do a whole-house data backup solution for a while now (and the Tech Magazine Loses June Issue, No Backup article only reminds me of it, and also makes me want to mock them).

I have a DVD burner for short-term local backups (although see this excellent How To Choose CD/DVD Archival Media article for which blank media is the best. Short version -- DVD+R (not -R) disks from Taiyo Yuden).

But I would also like off-site backup, for obvious reasons.

I was figuring on getting a Carbonite account, since they do unlimited remote backups for about $5 a month, later this month.

But then jordansc pointed me towards Mozy, which costs about the same for unlimited backup, and have several important features that Carbonite does not (for example, with Mozy you can access your backup files over the web).

So - do any of you have personal experience either with Carbonite or with Mozy?
