Don't you just love when you go to a music store and you walk up and down the aisles looking for that special cd that you are just dying to hear; the cd that made you drive over to the store in the first place..the one you just couldn't wait any longer to hear...
It's a different feeling then just browsing the store before you just happened to pass it while you were walking through the mall or by the section in target.
I just got back from Vinyl Fever and am currently enjoying my one of the two cds i bought today. You see, when i was working for santa the girl that got me the job is this chick Anita. Anita is AWESOME. I LOVE talking to her about life. She is kinda a hippie and is married to an artist. They are both so liberal and free-spirited. I love it.
Well, one day this past december after we had closed, we got to chatting and we eventually talked about music. I told her about how i was really getting into Bjork and she told me that i had to get ahold of a cd by some band who was called potter's head or something. Well, i forgot about it until i was reading spin magazine and they had an article on the top 100 albums from 1985 to 2005. Portishead was number 68 or something. I realized that was the band anita had told me about so i downloaded a few random songs off limewire and
I LOVE THEM!!
It is bjork/radiohead like music with a lead singers whose voice is eery like Amy Lee from Evanescence. I read a few articles about them online and critics have described their sound as smokey jazz trip-hop.
Well, i have been thinking about buying their cd and finally had the time to good to vinyl fever today to go get it. So i was on a mission and found the album..both albums were there and i considered buying both but thought that i should give each album equal amounts of attention and could do so if i waited and bought them one at a time. I also decided that i wanted one more cd before i left. One that i had been thinking of getting for awhile. First I thought of micheal buble' but then dismissed it since i haven't been in that mellow, norah jones-ish mood lately...but more into alternative stuff..I looked at a cd by this band tricky that portishead is thought to have gotten their influence from but then dismissed it since i hadn't really heard enough of their music to know if i would like it. Plus, it was in the techno section and if it turned out too techno i knew i wouldn't like it.
So i finally thought to myself, i should get a tool cd. i have been a fan for the past two years and only have burned copies or random songs. The other day I was listening to the radio and heard i song i automatically knew was either tool or a perfect circle since i can recognize maynard's voice anywhere. Every tool and perfect circle song i have ever heard i have loved so i got the anema album. So now i'm just gonna sit in my room, chill, and indulge in some awesome music.
